Your Wedding Accessories – Coloured or White Veil?

When it comes to the most important day of your life, you want everything to be just perfect. You've chosen the dress, decided on the theme, tried out the hairstyles and decided on accessories; but to make your wedding truly unique, why not go for something other than a traditional white veil? With so many weddings today incorporating elements of colour, you can feel free to make your look as personalised as you want.

Once you've decided on the length of the veil - you can choose from short, medium or long, all of which relate to the formality of the overall look – you can then consider whether you'll go for a traditional white veil or a brightly coloured one. Before you decide, however, do consider how to link the look into your theme.

Traditional veils

When you first start to look around, the majority of your choices will be in the vein of a traditional white veil. But, even if you decide to stay with white, it doesn't mean you cannot make it your own with a bit of personalisation. One way to do this is to add some glitter or sparkle. Whether you go for short, medium, or the full length (up to a royal 120 inches!) you can always add a customised selection of jewels, pearls or special lace to really make it your own. Another way to personalise it is to specify the amount of lace around the face - deciding if you want to go ultra modern, with a short, visor-like coverage of lace, or old-school with lace that runs down the back and flips over the face.

Colour pops

If you like the idea of colour as opposed to a simple white veil, but are a little apprehensive about going the whole hog and turning up in a hot pink one, then why not try something a little more subtle? Consider getting the lace trim done in a colour to complement the attire of the wedding party, or choose jewel accents to hold the veil in place. You could also look into getting an off-white or cream-coloured piece that is somewhere between a colour and traditional - but be careful that you choose the shade to match your dress.

Full colour

If subtle colour pops don’t bring your imagination to life enough, you can go all out and have a totally coloured veil. There is a proliferation of gently coloured hues such as champagne and hyacinth, but these often get lost in the overall look. What you may want is a bright, bold stroke of colour to set your look apart. Why not add a streak of bright colour, while leaving the rest white? Or, you can choose a very traditional dress and shock with an eye-catching red or even a dramatic black veil. Often the colours work very well in tandem with a simple, traditional dress. Whatever you decide, though, wear it with conviction and really own it on your big day!
