Srinagar. After 13 years in Jammu and Kashmir, on Monday, voting for the first phase of urban local area elections was held. The Election Commission said that 63.83% of the voting took place in the 11 districts, till 4 pm. The maximum turnout was 78 percent in Kargil. In addition, 76.9% in Rajouri, 70.9% in Poonch, 60.6% in Jammu, 52% in Leh, 36.6% in Kupwara, 7.3% in Anantnag, 17% in Badgam and 5.7% in Baramulla and 3.3% in Bandipora.

More than 4.42 lakh voters will vote
  1. In the first phase, 1,283 candidates are in the fray. In this phase, 247 wards of Jammu, 149 in Kashmir and 26 wards in Ladakh were voted. After this, 384 wards in second phase on October 10, 207 wards on October 13 in the third phase and 132 wards in last phase on October 16. Will be inserted.
  2. 79 polling stations were set up and 505 societies in Jammu Municipal Corporation. There were more than 5.86 lakh voters. For the first time voting was done with EVM. The results will come on October 20.
  3. Earlier, the state elections were held in 2005. In the first phase, 46 polling stations were declared highly vigilant. A large number of police and security forces personnel have been deployed in these areas. Polling took place at 4 o’clock in the evening.
  4. 2137 candidates are in the fray for 534 wards in Jammu. There are 75 wards in Jammu Municipal Corporation, 447 candidates have filed their nomination. At the same time, 294 candidates filed nominations from seven committees.
  5. The urban local body elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in four phases till October 8-16. There are 2,990 candidates for elections to be held in four phases for 1,145 wards in the state, including the Municipal Corporation of Jammu and Srinagar. 2,137 people from Jammu region, 787 from Srinagar and 66 candidates from Ladakh region are in the fray. About 17 lakh voters will vote.
  6. The National Conference and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have not fielded their candidates in these elections. Both parties protest the elections with Article 35A. At the same time, the BJP and the Congress have fielded candidates in most seats.
  7. Due to the protest of elections, no nomination has been filled in 150 wards in the valley. The BJP got its direct benefit. A party leader claimed that more than 60 out of the total 624 wards of the Valley, BJP candidates have won uncontested elections. In the Assembly elections, the party could not even open an account in these areas.
  8. The separatists have announced a strike in the Kashmir Valley about the election of the area. In this way all the train services in the valley were postponed. At the same time, Karwan-e-Aman bus service was also postponed for security reasons. Apart from this, internet services were stopped in some areas. Internet speed has been reduced in many areas.
