The Steps for Installing the Oracle Database include the following

  1. When installing the operating system ensure the hostname and the database are chosen carefully. The name assigned should not have the underscore when determining the global identifier of the database. The root access is required during the installation of the Oracle Databases. Set the SELinux policy-based controls to prevent the unauthorized access to the system resources such as the files and the TCP ports (Oke, et al…, 2011). The SELinux should be set to default settings during installation to secure processes.
  2. The firewall configurations should be set to permit access to Oracle databases only from the authorized database of from database management client.
  3. The common workloads should be set to tune automatically for the database storage. The workloads like the enterprise storage, the high network throughput, and the power savings should be set to operate automatically (Hanada, et al…, 2006).
  4. The network adaptor configurations should be set and configured to use separate networks as well as a separate network interface. Assign one network interface to access the server remotely for database and system management the second connection should be for the database connection (Ehrenfeld, & Rehman, 2011).
  5. Allocate regular or static huge pages for Oracle databases to increase chances of applications performing at fast speed due to quick access to memory.
  6. Tune the shared memory for System Global Area (SGA). Create new semaphores to facilitate the provision of enough resources for sharing a small amount of information among processes.
  7. Create the dedicated user accounts like the group accounts and the group assignments across the entire organization using the UID and the GID
  8. Set and configure the miscellaneous system configuration by increasing the values that may be low for example set the maximum number of open files and set the maximum number of the concurrent asynchronous input-output requests.

Decisions considered before installation

The policies and procedures must be considered based on the type installation of the Oracle databases. The software should meet all the requirements and the standards set by the international bodies. The installation process must comply with the standards set by the organization policies and standards (Yamashita, 2007). The data and information within the database must be kept in a backup before installing the new system into the computer systems. The previous data and information should be secured to facilitate data recovery and continuity,

The compatibility of the systems should be considered to ensure that the new Oracle databases support the organization operations, transactions, and activities. The system support should also be considered to ensure that the new Oracle database supports the existing software and hardware components (Garuti, et al…, 2001). The availability of the human workforce should also be considered. The organization should ensure that they have enough human resource to operate the new technology. The manpower should be well trained, experienced and have skills to handle the Oracle database.

The organization should consider the management and the maintenance of the Oracle systems through considering the availability of the future technology. The installation of management systems should consider the possibility of upgrading the system in future. The system should have means of supporting the future technologies by ensuring that the potential system can fit into proposed and forecasted technology (Pan, et al…, 2015). The organization should also consider the possibility of the installed systems to support the future expansion of the business. The system should take consideration of the future increase in traffic and accommodate the expected traffic and increase of clients.
