The mountain houses a cave, which is of great religious significance as it is the place where Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had taken refuge from the Quraysh tribe while migrating to Madinah.

Yet another interesting mountain that the UK pilgrims can visit during their time in Makkah is Abu Qubais. It is a sacred mountain located on the eastern border of the holy city. According to the popular legends, this mountain was known by the name Al-Amin during the times when the region was inhabited by the pagan Arabs. The legends also mention that the mountain housed a mysterious black stone during those times. It is this place where the miracle of splitting the moon was shown by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to the pagans. Later, they also witnessed the two parts of the moon join together again.
