2 Tips When Ordering Forklifts for Hire

Posted: Dec 08, 2018
When you hire a forklift, it can be difficult to understand exactly what you need without some research. There are many factors that you need to take into account, and this is where some expert advice can really come in handy. In this article, we will take a closer look at two tips that will help you to choose forklifts for hire that will be right for you.
1. The Forklift Types
There are different types of forklifts available to suit a wide variety of needs. There are stand up and sit down configurations, a stand up truck is useful for applications where operators need to jump on and off regularly. A sit down configuration is a good choice for forklift tasks where prolonged loading and unloading required more operator comfort. Broadly speaking you can further break down forklifts in five different configurations.
A Narrow Aisle Forklift: This is a great option for warehouse work where tight spaces under ten feet need to be negotiated. This forklift is safer to use in these areas, so the risk of injury and property damage are minimised.
Sit Down Forklift (combustion engine): These forklifts are available with a couple of tyre options, cushion tyres for indoors and pneumatic tyres for outdoors. There are different fuel types available, such as gas, diesel, petrol, LP and compressed natural gas.
A Motorised Hand Forklift: These forklifts are operated in a standing position or by walking alongside. They can be equipped with work save forks, and they can lift a pallet a short distance of the ground. There are also vertical mast variants with carriages for forks of different lengths.
A Piggy Back Lift: As the name suggests, these forklifts are designed to lock onto the rear of delivery vehicles. This allows the forklift to be transported to a site, used for loading and unloading and then brought back on the same vehicle. There are some different configurations available based on the specific application.
A Vertical Master Forklift: This is a great option for rough, muddy and uneven terrain. These surfaces need a larger high flotation tyre to drive the wheels progressively. This is different to a telescoping boom lift that is well suited to outdoor construction to reach loads placed on the top of structures.
2. Understanding Rental Charges
It’s important to understand the rental charges up front, and there will be rental fees for the forklift, batteries, and charger. The fees will be based on the length of the rental term, and you will need to contact the rental company when you don’t need the equipment anymore. There will be fuel charges for any partially empty tanks, so if the fuel tank was full when the equipment arrived it needs to be topped back up.
