Spice can be derived from any part of plant-like roots, seeds, fruits or bark. Spices are a very essential part of food as they give the required flavour and taste. There are a variety of whole spices suppliers in India and that’s why India is one of the biggest manufacturers of spices. Whole spices are the seeds or other parts of the plant before actual grinding takes place. Many people actually find it better to buy whole spices and grind at home. So here are some of the major whole spices and their uses:

Cardamom: It is a strong pungent spice with a slightly sweet flavour. It is useful for people with high blood pressure, fights inflammation, cures digestive problems and can treat bad breath and cavities. It also has antibacterial properties and can cure infections.

Cinnamon: It is a very delicious spice and offers many medicinal uses such as improving metabolism, used as food preservative, reduces the risk of heart disease, lowers sugar levels and helps fight against fungal and bacterial infections.

Cloves: They are dried flower buds extracted from clove tree. Cloves contain a chemical called eugenol that gives many medicinal properties to it. It is a popular remedy in treating toothache and fights infections. It might also be useful in the case of diabetes and cancer.

Cumin: It is dried fruit of a plant and has a nutty and smoky flavour. It is used as an important ingredient in Indian food. It is beneficial in curing various skin disorders and hair problems. It can also be effective for patients of diabetes, asthma, anaemia, ingestion and low immunity.

Carom seeds: It has a slightly bitter taste and has various medicinal purposes. It is helpful in curing indigestion, stomach pain and also toothache. It is also rich in calcium, protein and fibre.

Black pepper: It is called the king of spices and has various benefits including improved digestion, weight loss, relieving cough and cold and treating many skin problems.

Coriander: Coriander seeds have antioxidant properties and are effective in curing indigestion. It makes your liver healthy and improves bowel movement.

Fenugreek: It is beneficial in improving digestion, promoting milk flow in nursing mother and reduces inflammation.

Caraway seed: They are good fibre source and are rich in vitamin A, E and C. These seeds can be used for removing harmful radicals from the body and curing cough.
