An axial fan is a type of fan which while operating creates airflow by using a motor and then rotate an impeller fixed within a frame. The rotating blades force the air to move in the same parallel/axial direction to the spinning shaft, hence named as an axial fan. The designing of the axial fan is based on the structure of the propeller that produces the pressure difference and which further results in a suction force that maintain the flow across the fan all the time. It is very crucial to analyze the number of blades and the formation of blades to understand the structure and working of the axial fan.
The thing which makes an axial flow fan different from centrifugal fans & blowers is the method they move the air. Axial fans pull air and discharge it in the same axial direction whereas centrifugal fans/blowers discharge air in 90-degree direction.
The material of blades
The blades of axial fans usually are manufactured up of aluminum alloys or wood. These blades have applications in various domains like, they are used in the propellers of aircraft, helicopters, hovercrafts and ships.

- The first type of axial fan includes the fans used at home like Ceiling fans, Table fan, Compact fan, Computer cooling fans, the main utility of axial fan is to cool things down, that is why it is highly used in factories to maintain the temperature of machines.
- The second type axial fans are primarily designed for the vehicles. These fans prevent vehicles from getting overheated by discarding the hot air produced by the combustion of the engine.

Factors which affects the performance of Axial Fans
- The weight of air present per unit volume affects the performance of axial fans.
- The number of blades in the fans is another performance deciding factor. The number of fan blades is determined with the help of ratio of the sum of widths of blades with the circumference of the fan.
