If you are looking for information as to the basics of rigid plastic packaging read our guide that will tell you all you need to know:

  • Type of plastic: PP or Polypropylene forms the bulk composition of most of the rigid plastic packaging products. PP is high in tensile strength and is classified as a thermoplastic which is obtained as a Polymer after going through heat treatment. It is estimated that upto 30% of the PP manufactured in the world, is consumed by packaging manufacturers. PP also exhibits elasticity to a certain extent, but will get deformed easily, compared to other types of plastics. They can also be manufactured transparent, which makes it further suitable for packaging industries. They also have very high electrical resistance which makes it easy for them to be incorporated into machine parts. PP can be easily moulded to form boxes, trays, and all other containers which may further be used for product packaging.

  • PET or PETE: Polyethylene Terephthalate commonly known as PET around the world, is another heavyweight of the rigid plastic packaging industry. PETE is usually used to manufacture bottles, usually of carbonated beverages. PET bottles are pretty much standard across the world and they are used for packaging a variety of edibles, which can range from Liquid to semi liquid packaged food. Ketchup bottles, soda bottles, water bottles, are all common examples of usage of PET in the form of rigid plastic packaging.

  • Biodegradable: The latest innovation in rigid plastic packaging has been the advent of biodegradable plastic which is a step towards allaying the rising fears of plastic toxicity in the world. Biodegradable rigid plastic packaging is slowly making its mark in the packaging industry and a number of corporations have adopted them wholesale as a part of their green policies.
