Be it sleeping for at least eight hours a day or taking a walk after dinner or even as basic as having the correct food for our well being. When it comes to food and making a choice of what we want to eat, it is important to understand which food is essential for our physical as well as mental growth and development. Not all foods have the quality of providing an all-round benefit to the body.

For a student or a person who is into using his or her brain more than in comparison to the physical health, needs to eat certain foods that help in development of the brain, providing nutrition to the brain and helps in lowering risks of brain or mental health disorders.

Following is a list of food items that are considered brain healthy by the psychiatrists and nutritionists:

Dark chocolate

The flavonoids and caffeine in dark chocolates helps in brain in improving concentration and putting focus on specified and necessary objects. Although too much caffeine is not good for health, having it in limited quantities can help the person stay energized and keep cholesterol and blood pressure levels in control.

Wild Salmon

Wild salmons are rich in omega 3 fatty acids that are known to improve functioning of the brain. The omega 3 fatty acid DHA is a polyunsaturated fatty acid located in the brain. Having rich food in this type of nutrient helps in boosting mood of a person and functioning of a brain such as during reading, listening, reasoning or responding to people. All these are equally necessary for performing better in tests and exams and thus, earn high scores. If a person is allergic to fish, he or she can try walnuts that are also high in omega 3 fatty acids.

Eggs

The key ingredient in eggs is choline, a vitamin B object that helps the brain in memorizing and improving memories. The egg yolks are natural sources of this substance and can be eaten in many ways such as scrambled eggs or a fry.

Green Tea

The main ingredient of green tea is poly-phenols that helps in protection of the brain and enhancing the mood. These anti-oxidants are bitter-tasting in nature and protect the brain from wearing and tearing. The dopamine production feature of green tea helps in keeping a positive attitude in a person and helps in boosting the mood.

Whole Grains

Certain whole wheat or whole grain foods such as brown rice or oatmeal are known to help in improving blood flow within the body to the various organs, including the brain. Whole grain foods are considered to be super food for the whole body and due to fibrous nature, is beneficial for overall health.

Conclusion

Having a specific diet only to boost brain health might sound impractical to some. But having foods that aid in improvement of brain functions and memory can be eaten and included in the diet consciously. It will only help in improving the mental health of a person and thus, achieve success.
