Bed for a Doll or Teddy Bear

Custom boxes are present all around us. Starting from the food we purchase to daily household items to machinery, furniture, and even large shipments, everything comes in custom printed boxes . If you have a look of your storeroom, you will definitely find a number of custom boxes lying in heaps. They normally end up in trash or recycling bin. Sometimes these display boxes are so attractive that you do not want to throw them out. With a little creativity, you can transform them into a number of useful things. One of them is kids' toys. Here are some of the interesting steps to transform old custom printed boxes into a bed for doll or teddy bear. It's a good way to engage your kids for hours. It looks attractive and is easy to do. You can paint it in the way you want by using some of the simple supplies.

Material Required:

  • Cardboard boxes
  • Craft Knife
  • A Cutter or a Scissor
  • Tape
  • Pencil
  • Paper
  • Paint
  • An old foam
  • Any material or fabric for a mattress cover

Step 1: Prepare the body of the bed

The first step is to collect cardboard. You can get them from the leftover of cake boxes or candy boxes. You can also sort out your storeroom. It might contain a number of cardboard boxes from any old purchases. Cut off the lid of the box and prepare the main body of the bed by removing the tape if any. Once you have prepared the body of the bed you may cover it with some wrapping paper or apply a layer of tape for reinforcing it.

Step 2: Design the Headboard

Next step is to make a design for the headboard. Draw it on a paper and cut off the template. Then trace the template on a piece of cardboard obtained from custom boxes. Make sure that you leave some space at the bottom for the mattress. In the same way, make the footboard but keep in smaller in size.

Step 3: Make Mattress

For making the mattress of the bed you can take any old soft cell foam. Cut it off according to the size of the bed. If the mattress is thick you may split it by cutting it in half all the way across. Use sharp scissors or a cutter for this purpose. Sometimes you may need to glue two pieces together to make the mattress of the right size. Cover it with a piece of fabric.

Step 4: Attach Headboard and Footboard

Next step is to fix the headboard and the footboard with the box. Use a craft tape or a strong adhesive to add strength. Gaff tape or masking tape works well for sticking the cardboard together.

Step 5: Paint the Bed

Once you have prepared the bed to apply paint on it. It's preferable to apply a base coat first and let it dry. Afterward, put several layers of paint on it to give a good finish. You may also use spray paint for this purpose. It's your choice whether you want to paint it in a single color or a combination of some colors.

Step 6: Put It All Together

Once you have put your final finishes, put on the mattress on the bed. Place a pillow and blanket on it. Put a doll or a teddy bear on it and let it sleep. Let your kids play with it and enjoy. For more details about how to make a cardboard bed for a doll or a bear have a look to the following
