The word "clam" has no significant information or history in biology. However, in the America the clam is used to mean mollusc having two valves. It also used to for a bivalve other than mussel, scallop, and oyster. It is oval shape and fresh water animal. United States and Canada is famous for their clam chowder soup whereas in other parts of world like Italy and France the clam is used with other food item like pasta and are eaten in many forms. New England clam chowder is somewhat different from the United States flavor as they use some other herbs and ingredients to flavor it.

The external color of the mussel shell is dark blue or brown where as other family member of mussels has light color shell. These live in intertidal and subtidal areas, which are along the coastline of the worldwide seashore. Freshwater mussel species used to live in lakes, ponds, rivers, canals and many more. Whatever it is, the frozen blue mussels taste very yummy and so it is all the rage amidst the seafood lovers.

The zebra mussels are a bivalve mussel, which is native to freshwater. Zebra mussel is named because they have stripped patterns on their shell similar to zebra. All mussels do not contain this stripped shaped pattern. They are usually as long as fingernail or you can say about two inches long.

Zebra mussels were first described in Russia, which was reported to Hungary in 1794. They are D-shaped in shape. They have high nutritional value. They are consumed by crayfish, waterfowl and by muskrats. Their nutritional values change with season and specially protein level and carbohydrate level changes.
