Modern Bohemian Decor
Posted: Jan 13, 2019
One of the biggest home decor trends today is modern bohemian. It’s a fresh take on classic vintage bohemian decor where the color palette is much more neutral and the materials and textures are more natural. Most people think bohemian decor is for dorm rooms and first apartments. Quite to the contrary, this new contemporary take on boho chic is sophisticated and stylish for those with more refined taste.
My favorite use of this decor style is in the bedroom. Sometimes all you need is a rivulets quilt and it makes the whole look for the room. Also, it is imporary to incorporate some unfinished woods into the furniture of the room to create that rustic feel that is essential to any modern bohemian look. I also love adding lots of plants into a bedroom. Not only does this make for better air quality, it really complements the nature theme and textures in the rest of the furniture. For a more youthful vibe, add a cute throw or blanket with pom poms. Or layer on a furry rug. The more the merrier for bohemian decor.
For a quintessential boho chic living room, it is important to invest in the right area rug. There’s nothing bohemian about a how expensive an extra large area rug but it will tie the whole look together. My favorite are Moroccan style rugs to create a modern bohemian vibe. The nice cozy shag rug will do as as well. For seating, I would go with a slipcover white sofa. The classic bohemian couch is brown leather but for a more modern feel, try brightening up the color palette.
Also important for bohemian decor is the the little extra vases and baskets. Wicker baskets are the way to go to add more texture and functionality to the room. Not only do they look cool, they are easy way to hide all the clutter in the room. I also like using baskets and woven bowls as wall decoration. Instead of a wall photo gallery, try finding a collection of different size and colored woven bowls. Or consider using a wicker basket as a shelf. Another great wall decoration idea is using tapestry. You can create your own woven tapestry for get something unique from etsy.
Don’t forget to accessorize the sofa as well because that is an essential part of creating the right modern bohemian look. Try vintage woven throw pillow or a faux fur throw to create an inviting cozy feel to the couch. The nice thing about throw and blankets almost any type will fit any style. That’s why they are such great investments from a decor perspective.
For the right coffee table, try going with an unfinished wood slab or don’t have a traditional coffee table at all. You can use a larger ottoman as a table or extra seating. If the living room is cramped for space, try floor pillows that you can shove underneath the sofa when you need less seating.
Good luck creating your own modern bohemian home!
