The new Nissan Qashqai has a brand new infotainment system with smartphone mirroring and superb turbocharged petrol engine to enjoy. The new Qashqai range has been significantly upgraded in many areas, and there is now support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay devices. Sadly, this particular feature is only available in Europe at the time of this article. Let’s take a closer at what the latest Nissan Qashqai has to offer the discerning Australian car buyer.

A Brief Overview

The new 2019 Nissan Qashqai range will be defined in large part by the significant upgrades that have been made to the specification. Chief amongst these in the new infotainment system and the all new turbocharged engine. Nissan released some tantalising details about this new 1.3L turbocharged powerplant a short time ago. Now we have solid information about both the engine and the new infotainment screen.

The New Infotainment System

The new infotainment system is now called "Nissan Connect," and it’s an all new system designed to bring Nissan into line with other car manufacturers. For the very first time, we have full smartphone mirroring technology and support for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay devices. This has been a requested feature for quite some time, and it’s great that Nissan is responding to customer input. The Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support is now included as a standard feature on all European Qashqai models except for the entry level "Visia."

Some other interesting infotainment upgrades, include an over the air (OTA) mapping system, Tomtom Premium real time traffic updates, a new navigation app and a host of software updates. The focus has been on improving the integrations between the driver's mobile devices and the infotainment unit. This should improve many aspects of the Nissan Qashqai driving experience and bring the brand into line with other car makers.

As part of these infotainment upgrades, a new driver display has been added. This is located between the dials, and it has been completely redesigned to display even more information. In practice, this new display will be extremely useful for displaying phone call information and for receiving text messages on the go. The new display is also handy for the turn by turn route guidance system.

Australian Availability

According to Nissan Australia sources, there are no plans at this time to introduce the 2019 Nissan Qashqai to the Australian market. The specifications outlined above are only currently available on the European specification models. Of course, this could change in the future, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support should hopefully be coming here soon. There will be a retrofitting program available to convert certain Nissan cars to be able to use Android and Apple devices. Check with your local Nissan dealer for more information about adapting your car.
