Synthetic fibers are used in making Astro turf, which is commonly used in the sports fields. It is synonymous with artificial or synthetic turf. These artificial fibers are made up of nitrogen, carbon, oxygen and carbon compounds. Let us weigh the pros and cons of installing astro turfs in this article.

Pros of the Astro Turfs: Little Maintenance: There is one major advantage of installing astro turfs. Most of the homeowners and commercial establishments prefer to install it because it needs hardly maintenance. You need not worry about watering your plants or mowing seeds, cutting or pruning, etc. Also, weeds and insects harming your artificial garden are out of the question. You only need to clean and broom it from time to time to maintain its appeal.

Excellent Aesthetic Appeal: Artificial turf has aesthetic appeal. It looks and feel exactly like a natural turf. You can make the difference only when you touch them.

Cheaper to Maintain: Due to the reasons most apparent, artificial turfs do not require much maintenance. You do not need to invest in fertilizers, pesticides or on the garden equipment needed for the upkeep of the natural garden.

Cons of Astro Turfs:

Cause Excessive Heat Generation: Many people are of the belief that the artificial turf is safe for the environment, but actually it is not so. Artificial surfaces of the Astro turfs cause excessive heat generation which harms the environment. It is due to the reason that whenever you touch the artificial grass, it would feel much hotter than the natural grass.

Made-Up of Artificial Chemicals: Another major disadvantage of artificial turf is that it is made up of artificial chemicals, which are not good for the ecosystem. These chemicals are extremely harmful to the aquatic life. Since astro turf is not sync with the environment, it is harmful to the micro and macro organisms present in the environment. Insects which help to maintain the ecological balance keep the soil fertile and break the complex pollutants thrive only on natural grass. However manufacturers are looking out for means through which they can reduce the impact of these chemicals on the environment.

Abrasion Injuries are Common: It is not right to say that artificial turfs are resistant to abrasion. Abrasion injuries to these grasses become common when not properly maintained. These grasses are affected by a sports injury, which is known as turf toe. Also, they are most unsuitable for the places with high temperatures as they generate heat.
