Given your limited income, you might live from paycheque to paycheque. The amount you receive this month will only be enough to pay for the expenses the following month. However, there are times when you might receive some money you did not expect. It could be a performance bonus. It could also be a significant tax refund. You might also have a distant relative who died and left something for you. If you are lucky enough to receive some extra money, these are some wise things you can do with it.

Pay off all your debts

If you have debts you cannot finish paying, it might be time for you to pay them off. Over time, the amount blows up because of the interest charged. You spend money each month, but it only goes to the payment of interest, and not the principal amount. You can improve your credit score and feel relieved from these debts when you use the money to pay them off.

Build an emergency fund

Do you have an emergency fund? What will you do if you need money to pay medical bills or other expenses you did not expect? If such a time comes, you need an emergency fund, or else you will be in deep trouble. Therefore, if you have lots of money to spare now, you need to start building an emergency fund.

Save the money

If you cannot decide what to do with the money, you can save it. Find a bank that has a high interest rate for a savings account. You can also invest your money in a financial institution that grows it if you do not withdraw it within a year. Besides, you still have enough money right now. You can use the savings later when you need them.

Donate to charity

You did not expect to get this money, so you can give back to those who are in need. Donating to charities is a wise idea since there are people who are in a worse position than you. The organisations will use the money to help the poor and ill. It also feels good to know that you helped people because you had enough money to spare.

Treat yourself

The money is extra on top of your normal budget, so there is nothing wrong if you use it to treat yourself. You can plan a trip to your dream destination. You can buy a new vehicle if the amount is significant enough. However, if you want to use it this weekend, you can find large houses to rent with an indoor pool. It might be costly, but you already have enough money to pay for it. You can relax and enjoy the amenities while you are there. You can also start thinking about what else you are going to do with the money.

It feels great to receive something you did not expect. Despite that, you still need to be wise in determining how to spend it; otherwise, you might blow the opportunity, and go back to how you were before you received the money.
