For some, writing for SEO and writing purposes to attract and captivate their audience may seem like two conflicting objectives. I totally disagree. In fact, if you want a readable and SEO friendly blog post, the words you want to find must be in a very prominent place. But, the excessive use of keywords seriously hinders the readability of your text, which you definitely do not want to do.

Before you start writing: keyword research

Before you can start writing, you have to do keyword research. If you want to master the results of the search, you will only have to find out what words your audience is really looking for. These are the topics on which you should write and the words you should use in your text.

Now, let's start with some writing tips!

Key tips for writing good blog posts

Above all, your blog should be a good one. When starting a new publication on the blog, many bloggers start writing, writing what comes to mind. While this may work for some people who have a natural talent for writing, others may need help. Personally, I always follow these "rules" when I write a blog.

1. Think before you write!

Think carefully about the message of your piece. What do you want to tell your readers or what central question do you want to answer? What is the purpose of your article? And what do you want your readers to do at the end of the page? Write the answers to these questions before you begin.

2. Create a structure for your blog.

Begin your publication by creating a clear structure. Each publication must have:

some type of introduction (in which you introduce your topic);

a body (in which the main message is written);

a conclusion (which should summarize the most important ideas or draw a conclusion).

Write what you want to say in the three sections. Now you have a kind of summary of your publication. Now you can start the actual writing.

3. Use paragraphs

Everyone uses paragraphs, but not all use them well. Do not start each new sentence on a new line, just because it looks good. There must be a logical reason to start a new paragraph. Each paragraph must have its own idea or theme. Ask yourself what is the main idea of each paragraph. I should be able to summarize that main idea in a single sentence. If you need more prayers, you simply need to use more paragraphs.

4. Use headers

Headers structure the whole page, so use them. They are important not only for readability, but also for SEO. Headings also help Google understand the main issues of a long post and can therefore help you in your ranking. If you want people to find their way through your articles, you should use subtitles to direct people, help them scan your page and clarify the structure of their articles. Be sure to use your keywords in some of the subtitles, but not in each and every one of them, as it will make the text confusing and unnatural, which will make people stop reading more.

5. Use signal words

The words of caution help people scan their text and capture the main ideas. Let's say, for example, that there are three reasons for people to buy their product. You should use warning words like: "first of all"; "Second" and "finally". In addition, words like 'however', 'surely' and 'in fact' give a clear signal to your readers. Readers will get instantly that a conclusion will come after words like "consequently", "therefore" or "for this reason". The signal words are therefore very important to add structure to your text.

6. Let other people read your post.

Before publishing your post, let someone else read it first. Ask them if they understand the main concept of their publication and invite them to correct any typographical and grammatical errors.

7. Optimize the length of your article.

Make sure your articles have a minimum of 300 words. Google likes long articles, however, if your article is too long and not so easy to read, it could scare users. Try writing long articles when you know you are an expert writer. Take a look at this article if you want to know: "How long should my article last?". And do not forget to use your key focus phrase from time to time! 4. Use headers

10. Use our Yoast SEO plugin

The analysis tool in our Yoast SEO plugin helps you write easy-to-read and SEO blog posts. Start by choosing your focus keyword because this is the most important search term for which you want people to find this particular page. Then execute all kinds of controls to see if your publication is well optimized:

Our add-on checks your post to see if you've used the key phrase in the right places, such as your copy, title, meta description, alternative text and URL. Yoast SEO Premium will also recognize different word forms of your keyword phrase.

Check the legibility of your text: Are your sentences or paragraphs too long? Do you use words of transition?

Check the internal and external links and the images in the article. Yoast SEO Premium even offers suggestions for links to related articles on your site.

Calculate the frequency with which you use your key phrase throughout the text: is not it enough or too often? In Premium, it also checks if you have distributed your key phrase or synonyms correctly.

It also checks if other pages on your website use the same focus keyword, to prevent it from competing with you.
