If you are one of the few homeowners who choose to paint the floor, then you have just turned that part of your home as a canvas where you can freely express yourself.

Floor Painting Designs may not be quite popular now but many enthusiasts in interior design slowly prefer it. This flooring option allows for more styles and patterns and is relatively affordable. Painted floors look rich and can even increase the aesthetic value of any home. Also, painting various designs onto the floor is a simple DIY project that you and your family can take on during the weekend.

Which Canvas to Use

You may choose to have wood or concrete flooring if you want to begin painting. Both of these materials are quite easy to paint over using the simplest techniques. The downside to painting over these materials is that you have to allocate a portion of the floor for foot traffic as the other half is drying out. Once the dried portion is good to go, then that is the only time that you can paint the other half.

The ideas are practically limitless when it comes to painting a floor. What you need to do is to prep yourself of the outcome. Whatever the result would be, just be sure that you are willing to embrace the new look.

This is the importance of choosing the right design or pattern from the onset. There are some designs that may look great initially but they could get overbearing in time.

You might have heard of stenciled designs that are ready-made designs for your floor. To make borders around a room, be sure to use petite designs, making sure that you leave the rest of the room as it is.

If you cannot find any stencils that you think would work in your home, then you can always trace your own design. Use a cardboard to cut out patterns of your own liking. Stencil floor designs look great on living and dining rooms.

How about using tiled patterns? Probably the most popular among tiled patterns is the checkered flooring. Somehow, wooden flooring’s joints tend to look rustic and more beautiful when painted with a checkered pattern.

Faux finishes from wooden to marble could spice up any space. Marble is often used in living rooms and the wooden finish inside a master bedroom. The garage can take a stone finish.

If you want your flooring to have a more modern look, try using squares of varied sizes and colors. This is the kind of pattern that is most used in many kids’ rooms. Finally, you can also mimic the look of a tiled floor with the use of paint. Just make sure that you use thicker joints.

Paint can be a complex motif at the center of a living room. The rest of the floor can have a solid yet lighter color. Painting a rug that is already on your floor is also a great idea. Just retrace the patterns of a rug and it will look brand new once again.

There are many factors in determining the kind of floor painting design such as the function of the room – is it going to be used as a master bedroom, kitchen, kid’s room or a garage?

Consider also the theme of the room as well as the number of foot traffic that happens there every day. Take a walk in the park, scour interior design magazines or visit online sites that discuss the latest ideas in floor painting. Be sure to derive inspirations from these so that you can begin your project soon.
