Museums Which May Inspire London Engagement Ring Designers
Posted: May 23, 2014
The charms of London town need not be sold to anyone any longer. Even the most out-of-touch of tourists will undoubtedly be well aware of the many stunning sights, attractions, monuments and hidden gems the British capital has to offer. Nor are the City’s charms lost on the locals; London engagement ring designers, for instance, often can derive inspiration for their exceptional pieces simply by taking a walk around the centre of this magnificently unique European capital.
As much as the sights and sounds of the City help to fire their inspiration, however, London engagement ring designers who experience less creatively fluent periods can also derive more immediate ideas from visiting any of London’s many jewellery-themed museums and exhibitions. The jewellery trade has historically been associated with London, and it is therefore no surprise that the British capital should be so prolific in showcases dedicated to it.
The most immediate place for jewellery designers to visit when looking for inspiration would be the Tower of London. This is where the British Crown Jewels are permanently displayed, and one look at the breathtaking beauty of these gems will undoubtedly be enough to give any designer inspiration! Going at an hour when the monument is not thronged with tourists will be even more beneficial to an artist’s creative flow, as there is inspiration to be drawn from silence.
London engagement ring designers who have already seen the Tower of London and for whom its appeal has become familiar will not, however, be completely devoid of places to go for easy inspirational sparking. Two of the City’s main museums offer permanent or temporary exhibits on jewellery, which can help artists to amass ideas as well as give them a different outlook on their profession.
The first of these museums is the Victoria & Albert, one of the many free museums in the Central London area of Kensington. Proclaiming itself the world’s largest museum of decorative and visual arts, this institution has an entire section dedicated entirely to jewels and their impact on Western society fashions over time. The large selection of baubles and pendants for all sorts of different eras will undoubtedly feel like heaven on earth for a London designer short on ideas – and what is best, it can be gazed upon entirely free of charge!
The other institution London engagement ring designers on the quest for inspiration might want to visit is the also free Museum of London, where 500 pieces of Elizabethan and Jacobean jewellery are displayed. More humorous souls may also get a chuckle out of the name of this exhibition (the Cheapside Hoard), which derives from the area where this impressive collection was found in 1912. Designers who look to past centuries for inspiration will particularly appreciate this glimpse into 17th century jewellery!
London jewellery designers are capable of deriving inspiration from more than just the City’s stunning sights – its museums can serve as excellent sources of ideas, too!
