Air operated diaphragm pumps of various sizes are used in diverse industries. These pumps are quite popular and familiar in verticals such as the petrochemical, manufacturing, and food industry. Their novelty lies in their comprehensive design which can be useful in transferring highly abrasive products. The material of construction is usually made up of the body – polypropylene, aluminium and stainless steel. Their diaphragm comprises Santoprene, Neoprene, Buna N, Nortel, Hytrel, Teflon, and Viton. Their maximum pressure-range and head-ranges are 7 bar (maximum) and 70 m, respectively.

Here is how they work:

An Air operated diaphragm pump is a positive-displacement pump variety which uses compressed air as its source of power. The compressed-air is then shifted from a single chamber to the other through a linked shaft which allows the simultaneous movement of the chambers. The back-and-forth motion of the liquid forces it to come out of one chamber as well as into the discharge pipe while the other chamber gets filled with the liquid simultaneously.

These air operated pumps are known for the reciprocation of elastomeric diaphragms along with checking-valves in order to pump fluid. The liquid chambers drawn through a common inlet are then filled and emptied. They are then discharged via the same outlet.

This outlet is commonly replaced by a ball or flap check-valve, which depend on the solids that pass the requirements of the application. These valves are known to operate under different pressure specifications in the pumped liquid.

AODD pumps are known to possess the high characteristics of suction lift which are useful in handling highly viscous liquids. They can handle sludges and slurries with a very high quantity of solid and grit content.

It is equally vital that you note that there is some pulsation of discharge-flow when it comes to air operated diaphragm pumps. This effect of pulsating flow can be minimized to an extent by making use of pulsation-dampeners in place of discharge piping. They are basically light-weight and submersible-types pumps offering a competitive performance. They also offer useful features such as dead-head operation, self-priming and much more. They possess many applications such as solvent cleaning, loading and unloading of chemicals, blending, and chemical transfer. There are innumerable AODD pump manufacturers in India.

The key features include self-priming, variable flow rates, and discharge pressure. They can also operate at the deadhead. It is possible to submerge the diaphragm in the water.

At Ate, we were able to carve a niche for ourselves with Yamada air operated double diaphragm pump. Our extravagant features, such as bolted-construction and common component replaceable parts are known to maximize uptime and, in turn, increase profitability.
