Hardwood Ply is made from veneers or wood obtained from species like Teakwood, Gurjan wood. Plywood made from veneers obtained from above-mentioned trees are also termed as 100% hardwood plywood. Therefore hardwood plywood is expensive product too.

While Softwood Ply is made from veneers or wood obtained from species like mango wood. Softwood ply is not as strong as hardwood ply and therefore come for a cheaper rate than hardwood of the same number of ply.

Usually, hardwood is used to make plywood for its strength and durability, while some use softwood to make plywood to sell low cost, which in return affects the quality of plywood.

Generally, in the Indian market, there are Commercial Ply or MR Grade / Marine Ply / BWR Ply/ BWP Ply.

Commercial Ply or MR Grade: MR is abbreviated as Moisture resistant. Durable for a long time and very expensive. The BWR Plywood is commonly used for application areas where exposure to water such as bathrooms.

BWP Plywood: Acronym for BWP is "Boiling Water Proof". The BWP Grade Plywood quality is similar to marine ply 710 Grade. It has features similar to marine ply IS 710.BWP Plywood is borer proof and termite resistant.
