Top Four Predictions for Humanoid Robots That Will Shape The Future
Posted: Feb 09, 2019
When the first AI-powered humanoid robot Sophia was unveiled, the world could not help but admire this stunner, with its perfect face, doe eyes and an impressive sense of humor. This robot was a head turner for its exhibition of human values such as compassion, kindness, etc. In addition, it can understand languages, make eye contact, and recognize faces. Sophia may be extensively talked about but it is not the only humanoid robot to earn admiration. The cute tomato feeding Tomatina, fully programmable hospitality-bot Fabio and bipedal humanoid Atlas are other superstars.
The last decade saw outstanding growth in industrial growth, which has completely revolutionized the manufacturing sector; now humanoid robots that are not yet mainstream shall pace up. These humanoid robots are capable of doing a lot of activities just like humans line cleaning, answering calls, to cooking meals, it is safe to say that humanoid robots have come a long way. There are many admirers of this fast-growing technology and predict it to be the future. Some people are apprehensive about them, who believe they will cause more damage than help, including some great physicists and software moguls. The year 2019 is promising in the field of humanoid robotics and here is our take on it.
- Mass Production
The idea of opening manufacturing units for the mass production of humanoid robots has been doing rounds from quite some time now. AkinSoft has set up the first such factory in Turkey with the name The AkinRobotics. They claim they will manufacture robots with the ability to speak, hear, smell, and will be able to use the internet in the future. With the fourth Industrial revolution around the corner, it is an obvious prediction that humanoid robots will be a significant outcome of it.
- Taking over jobs
The biggest criticism of humanoid robots comes from those who believe that these machines would eventually take over many jobs, but then there is a section who thinks that dull and dangerous jobs can be assigned to them especially life-threatening works like welding, lumberjacking, coal mining, ground clearing after a disaster, etc. These jobs cause a lot of casualties and severe health ailments across the globe; it is wiser to hand over these jobs to robots. The jobs for humans shall also evolve with time, it is just like when computers came in circulation people had similar fears, but now the entire service sector has grown around it.
- Will become part of every household
Experts have predicted that humanoid robots shall play the role of housekeepers, nannies and domestic help in the coming years. Where countries like Japan have already been welcoming to this idea as seen post the launch of Pepper in 2005, the other countries might also welcome them in their homes. Scientists have been able to program these robots with emotional attributes such as empathy and compassion, and it is most likely that the kids of this generation shall have a robot as their pal.
- Caregivers for seniors
When on the one hand the advancement in medical sciences have increased the life expectancy and made the life of elders comfortable, on the other hand rising individualism has left them alone in their last years. In countries where the population growth is negative, and there is an ever-increasing population of older people humanoid robots can be a blessing. These robots can be a great asset as caregivers as they can give round the clock services to the aging people.
These humanoids are here to stay, now they are capable of doing simple chores, with time they will definitely take up high complex works. However, one cannot draw the exact timeline now but humanoid robots will make their presence felt more strongly in the coming years.
