Why is it important to attend a Polo School?

Many polo clubs offer polo lessons and consider this to be the service of a Polo School.

Why is it important to attend a Polo School?

A polo lesson lets you have a go at polo but for those of you who come to a polo school like Estancia Don Manuel you get to experience a full understanding of polo in a way that turns you into a competent polo player, able to play a match anywhere in the world on fields, on horses and with team mates that you dont know thanks to everything you will learn at Don Manuel Polo School.

Polo Training

We consider polo to be a "complete" sport. It requires more than just a good swing. Polo offers us the opportunity to improve in many different areas: our horsemanship skills, personal fitness and technique and our ability to work as a team on game strategy. For this reason, our intensive polo program is designed for both individuals that have never ridden before as well as competent players that wish to continue improving. To achieve these skills our program focuses on 3 areas: Swing and Technique Theory, Game Theory, Practice.

These three are combined with a physical regime developed specifically for each polo player.

Polo Lesson

Theory: The initial coaching takes place indoors on a wooden horse where the instructor explains the polo swing. The hitting cage is equipped with a special ball launching system so that the player can hit balls continuously. Sitting on the wooden horse, the player practices swing and movement of legs, arms and other parts of the body under the careful supervision of the instructor.

Practice: Once the swing has been understood and incorporated you will be provided with the necessary equipment -boots, helmet and mallet – then mounted on a real horse to practice what you have learned. Under the instructor guidance, first at walking pace and then at gallop, you will experience the joy and excitement of playing polo.

After the lesson, beverages will be served while the instructor summarizes the main contents learned and reviews your strengths and weaknesses for a future match. After that, you will be given a diploma. Tea will be served in the main house of our Estancia [Polo School] where you will have the chance to restore energy used during the polo practice.

After many years of having travelled the world playing polo as a professional, developed new players, managed a polo club in the US, umpired professionally, tamed and trained ponies as well as having developed guests’ polo fitness, technique and game strategy, I believe that I know what polo players and their families need to enjoy a great vacation that combines relaxation and physical exercise. http://www.poloschoolargentina.com/
