Avoid Warehouse Accidents with Safety Barriers

Every factory and warehouse facility should have strict safety protocols in place to minimise the chances that an accident could occur. Despite this, accidents can and will occur due to a variety of factors that will include a lack of care on the part of employees. No matter how good your safety training, people are complacent by their nature and over time employees can become overconfident and even reckless as they perform their work. Work related injuries can result in significant disruption and downtime for a busy business, and they should be avoided wherever possible. For this reason, we recommend that employers look at expandable safety barriers to promote workplace safety.

Choosing the Right Safety Barriers

When it comes to safety barriers, there are many different styles and models available to choose from. Some are better than others in terms of construction, and they are often suitable for different applications. The first thing to bear in mind is that the construction material used should be good quality and fit for purpose. The second most important quality of an effective barrier is that it must be visible. So, you need a bright high visibility colour paired with a barrier that can resist light impacts and minor damage. It’s important that the barrier can be repaired or replaced quickly to ensure that an area is not left unprotected for protracted period of time.

Choosing a Safety Barrier Material

Many managers may be tempted to use old fashioned materials, such as concrete or steel. These days it’s better practice to use a polymer based material for a number of reasons. Firstly, these types of materials will not cause damage to people, drivers, machinery or vehicles, that come into contact with them. Secondly, a polymer barrier will absorb some impact, but it will quickly spring back into shape after the initial impact has been resolved. This is in stark contrast to unyielding concrete or steel barriers that crumple and crush during an impact and then need replacing. Thirdly, a set of polymer barriers are not only more effective, but they are also a more cost effective option. Finally, as we stated earlier, a polymer safety barrier can be easily make in any high visibility colour that you need. The plastic is coloured as it’s constructed, this means that it’s resistant to fading and colour degradation over time.

The New Standard

For the reasons shown above, a polymer based safety solution has become the defacto solution for many factories and warehouses in recent years. They are a way for the employer to promote safety and visibility at an affordable cost that would be hard to match with more traditional steel or concrete alternatives. Of course, a warehouse or factory is filled with lifting equipment and machinery, and it’s impossible to eliminate every health and safety threat. However, using safety barriers will help to mitigate many of these risks.
