Nissan Navara Based Concept Revealed in Brazil
Posted: Feb 27, 2019
The Nissan Navara is a fantastic vehicle that may be proving to be far more versatile than even Nissan themselves imagined. A new concept has been revealed in Sao Paulo, Brazil and it has been named as the Nissan Frontier Sentinel. This vehicle is based on the Navara, but it has been extensively modified to function as a rescue vehicle. Let’s take a closer look at what we’ve learned about this exciting Navara variant.
The Nissan Frontier Sentinel Concept
The was recently revealed at the Sao Paulo Motor Show, and it came with an interesting finish based known as "Thunder Blue," which is a native bird species. It’s designed to be a rugged, tough rescue vehicle that can deliver aid to the most remote spots. It can handle pretty much any terrain much like its parent vehicle the Navara dual cab ute.
Some Key Design Features
The most interesting design features for a vehicle designed to offer vital aid in remote locations is the addition of an extensive battery pack power system. There are two battery packs fitted, and they were sourced from the Nissan Leaf electric vehicle. They are housed inside a modified sliding tray system for easy storage and access as needed. The rear of the Frontier Sentinel is equipped with a small landing and take-off platform that could be used to deploy search and rescue drones. The vehicle is reinforced with a rollbar that has been strengthened along both sides of the cargo space. There is also a bespoke lighting system and a snorkel for navigating streams and rivers. The specially designed wheels are shod with substantial off road tyres that won’t let you down. The cabin and exterior are finished in bright electric yellow colours to improve visibility.
The Distinctive Finish
Nissan has stated that the "Thunder Blue" exterior was inspired by a native Brazilian hyacinth macaw. This is a parrot that’s native to many eastern and central regions of South America. The electric yellow highlights that punctuate the design are based on a design of electronic circuitry. The overall look is certainly striking, and this rescue vehicle would be hard to miss in an emergency situation.
A Full Production Run?
At the moment we have no official word from Nissan to indicate that the Nissan Frontier Sentinel could make its way into a full production run. In fact, this vehicle is the latest in a very long line of concept cars based on the Nissan Navara. We last saw the Navara used as the basis for the Dark Sky astronomy based concept at the Hannover Motor Show back in September. However, this is certainly an attractive design that is also genuinely useful, and it will be extremely interesting to see if it’s explored further in the future.
