According to a medical report, approximately two third of the total population suffering from congestive heart failure have false beliefs about their life duration. They overestimate the left-over life expectancy by almost 40 percent in comparison to what the reality is. In a total of 122 people surveyed with a congestive heart failure ranging between moderate to severe, 63 percent of the people overestimated the life expectancy up to three years. What is the reason behind this oddness is not yet discovered, but lack of proper communication between the patients and the doctors is a major cause?

Any problem related to the heart which is termed in medical science as heart failure caused when the heart is unable to pump the blood adequately leads to a lot of deaths in the country and worldwide. The number is in thousands, as per a recent survey. With the advancement of technology, new techniques are being adopted to enhance the success rate of treating heart-related diseases, but still, more than 50 percent of the patients have a life expectancy of fewer than five years. And, people who are at a serious stage die within a year almost. How optimistic or pessimistic the patient is really mattered a lot for the doctors because on the basis of their behavior doctors decide the course of medicines, devices to be used, transplantation etc. Thus, it is very important to dwell deep and find out the exact cause as to why patients suffering from heart illness tend to overestimate their life. It is not a rule of science that can be predicted by applying a fixed formula or using a theorem.

Until and unless the exact cause behind this strange behavior is not being discovered, it is better to talk to the doctor regarding all the doubts that are present in the patient’s mind. Being positive is a good thing and is essential for fast recovery but living in a world full of illusions makes no sense at all. One should be aware of what is going to happen with him or her in the near future.
