Toronto Wedding Photography Prices - a Wedding Photographer's Perspective

As a wedding photographer, I meet a lot of couples. They just got engaged and are looking for vendors to make their special day...special. One of the main complaints I hear from the typical bride and groom is that very few vendors have their prices listed online.

It is one of those situations where vendors apply the old technique of offering the minimum price and asking to meet the couple to share the rest of the packages. Sadly, many photographers still believe this works and honestly, it hurts their business. After all, if you go shopping and you don't see the price listed, don't you automatically assume the price is too high?

Another trick used in the industry is to show an artificially low starting price. It goes like this. Starting package is $1000. Still, that introductory price includes only three hours of photography and the artist will try to upsell the higher end packages when they meet the bride and groom.

At Photography by Calin we have an ethical pricing policy whereby we charge market rates (even on high demand periods such as long weekends or the summer). Our wedding photography pricing pager clearly shows our three most popular packages and we constantly do market research to ensure we provide our clients with the best value in the Greater Toronto Area.

Even more, we allow the clients to have flexibility when it comes to packages. We provide time blocks couples could use either for their engagement shoots or on their wedding day.

To provide flexibility further, we have three packages. A Good-Better-Best kind of structure and the clients do not have to decide what package they want when they book us. We want to make their life easy and allow them to pick their preferred collection later.

We are often asked if we price match our competitors. We do not have a price matching policy and we are not interested in being the cheapest wedding photographers on the block. As such, we do not encourage pricing wars so we don't price match. If a couple is very price sensitive, we are not the best studio for them. We can offer alternatives and we work with several studios that charge less than us if the clients want a no-frills option.

Also, there are clients whose budget is above our pricing range and in those cases, we either offer additional services (pre-wedding photo shoots, engagement shoots or longer coverage on the wedding day) or we simply refer them to our partners. Please note that I am not using the word competitors. In this industry we all work together and we try to do an amazing job for our couples.
