When you find yourself at the crossroads between buying a new or used car, there is a short list of concerns that prevent you from deciding. Is it a good investment? Is it within your budget? Are you missing out on a better deal? Your circumstances can give you conflicting answers. If you are struggling to make a case for used cars, due to bias or lack of information—here are three reasons why buying second hand can be the way to go:

They fulfill a basic need

New cars are bound to offer new and fashionable features. Your vehicle can be your internet hotspot. There are rear-view cameras that make parking easier. Then there is the classic feature of having heated seats. Used cars range from the early 2000s up to last year, so their features may not be as impressive. However, just because it does not have trunks that open automatically when your hands are full does not mean it is inferior.

Do not forget that the primary purpose of a car is to transport you (and your things) from one place to another. When you think about it like that, it makes all cars available a good candidate. The next thing you should consider is the capacity and efficiency of the car. A well-maintained car can be just as efficient as a new one, and capacity depends on the model—when you consider this, the playing field evens out.

They are affordable

The ideal situation when buying a second-hand car is one that is a relatively new model without a lot of mileage along with the price of a used car. However, even when the car has its fair share of wear and tear, they are still significantly more affordable and can be an investment as well. The money you saved from forgoing the brand-new car can be put into a new business, classes, and other activities that you could not afford if you are forced to live from paycheck to paycheck. After three to five years, you can upgrade and get a better car, when you are more financially comfortable. You could reward yourself with a new car, or keep the ball rolling and find another second-hand purchase that pays for itself.

Old vehicles that you can pay for in cash can be riddled with expensive problems but can also be considered a steal for the learning opportunity it provides if you have the right skill set. Car enthusiasts, budding mechanics and engineers can use these cars as a passion project. The price of a used car cannot be beaten.

They come in all shapes and sizes

Another benefit of buying second hand is that you never know what you might find roaming around used car dealerships in Utah. They can have a model that is not commonly found in your area. Colors and shapes that suit your aesthetic taste. You can look for an era and movement that suits your lifestyle best. You can create a unique mark instead of going along with the latest trends.

Ultimately, second-hand cars occupy a gray area. All these benefits can be cons for other people. However, you cannot discount that when you win on all three fronts: utility, affordability, and style—you have come across a treasure you cannot find anywhere else.
