When you’re looking for handles for your next kitchen project, it can be very difficult to make a choice. There are many different types of cupboard pulls available in a wide variety of materials, colours, and finishes. However, any great kitchen designer will spend time looking for the right handle, but unless they have a custom design and the accompanying budget, they will have to fulfill a broader remit. If you know what to look for it’s far easier to narrow down your choices and get a handle that will meet almost all of your needs. Here are three steps that you can follow to choose the right kitchen cupboard handles.

1. Knob or Pull?

This purely down to personal preference, both a knob and a pull can look great in your kitchen. Of course, the actual design of either choice must fit in with your kitchen design to it’s a great idea to check them carefully before making a commitment to buy. Hold the handles in your hand; do they feel the right shape and size for your project? Place them up against the cabinetry that you interested in and see how they match up. If you cannot decide between a knob or pull that you like all is not necessarily lost. A knob and pull can be combined to create additional interest if you want to break up the uniformity of your overall kitchen look. As a general rule, knobs look better on doors and pulls look better on drawers.

2. Which Material?

The majority of the modern kitchen cabinet hardware on the market is manufactured using a metal alloy. If you use brass hardware, it will often have plating or lacquer covering the surface to make it durable for kitchen use. Bronze kitchen hardware has a classic appearance, and it’s ideal in a kitchen that uses thicker wood cabinetry. Brass and bronze hardware have antimicrobial properties that will help to prevent the spread of germs in the kitchen area. There are some other popular choices, such as nickel, pewter, and stainless steel, to consider before making a final choice. If you really want a traditional look without using brass or bronze, look at crystal or glass knobs for a touch of vintage class.

3. Which Finish?

Once you have a better idea about the type of kitchen cupboard handles that you want it will be far easier to select the finish. There are many cabinet hardware finishes to choose from, such as: brushed, burnished, satin, matte, antique, tarnished, oil rubbed and polished. The finish that you choose will have a dramatic effect on the visual appeal of the kitchen cabinet hardware that you’ve chosen, and it should not be underestimated. As a broad guideline, a more traditional finish will suit an antique style kitchen and the reverse is also true. Sometimes, mixing materials and finishes can create a dramatic effect, and it should be explored if you’re feeling bold.
