What Is The Difference Between Trampoline and Inflatable Bounce House
Posted: Jun 06, 2014
Bounce houses and trampolines have always been two of the main contraptions built for having a real bouncing fun. Still, the subject of which device is better overall is more than controversial, since so many people love them both.
So, does this mean that you can just flip a coin to decide which of them to buy? Well, there are a few aspects you can think of depending on what you actually need them for, since each of them have their own advantages and drawbacks.
Who Is It For?
Before deciding on buying either a trampoline or a bounce house for your children or as a gift to someone, you should first ask yourself: who will use it? Do you need a big, colorful toy for your 5 year old to have fun on her birthday party? Or maybe your teenage son wants to polish his skills on a trampoline to become a famous sportsman?
A bounce house is generally considered to be a great toy for small children. It’s no accident that you will find them in the shape of castles, space ships or candy houses, and painted in rainbow colors that would captivate any child’s attention. The thing is, however, that (depending, of course, on the size of your bounce house), children will generally lose interest in these contraptions once they grow up a little, and they may not be that safe anymore after your child grows up.
Trampolines, one the other hand, may be suitable to young children, as well as older ones, and larger models are even used by professional gymnasts. They have their own drawbacks too, however: they are considered to be less safe (since bounce houses offer a generally closed space environment), and they just don’t offer the same kind of experience in terms of coming up with creative games. Bounce houses are definitely better on this one.
Space Requirements – Outdoor vs. Indoor
In terms of space, both bounce houses and trampolines can be either small or large. Trampolines, on the other hand, are easier to store when they are not being used, as they are not as bulky and complicatedly built as bounce houses usually are.
Most trampolines are recommended to be used mostly outdoors, on the other hand, as there is usually not enough space inside the house for one, and it can be much easier to get injured or break things when using even smaller trampolines inside.
Bounce houses don’t have this issue. You can safely set up a bounce house out on your yard or inside in your children’s room. This means that not only are they safer overall, but they can also be used all year round – even during harsh winter storms when using an outdoor trampoline would be virtually impossible.
Safety Issues
Although many people consider trampolines to be more exciting, as you can bounce to larger heights, and use them for longer periods of time, some are not very safe. Many have admitted that when they were young, using a trampoline was fun, but they ended up with injuries in some cases, even breaking their legs. Also, it can be somewhat dangerous for children of different sizes to use a trampoline at the same time.
Bounce houses, on the other hand are closed by puncture resistant walls, floors and roofs, offering kids of all ages a safe environment to bounce to their heart’s content. Even though you may need to be careful about other safety concerns, such as securing the bounce house in place properly and supervising your kids as much as possible, they are less likely to get injured than on a trampoline.
The Fun Factor
Once we’ve covered all of that, it’s time to focus on the real advantages that would determine the winner in the great battle of bounce houses vs. trampolines: the fun factor. The question here is how much fun can both devices offer?
Trampolines can be great for kids of any age and even teenagers and adults, and can be a lot of fun, but they offer less potential for creative games.
Bounce houses, on the other hand are much more sophisticated. There are literally hundreds of games that you can teach your children to play in a bounce house, while even taking part in them yourself. Also, larger bounce houses are perfect for kids and teens to party in, and you don’t have to worry about jumping too high or landing outside the safe area.
Bottom Line
All in all, it’s safe to say that both bounce houses and trampolines can offer a lot of great benefits in their own ways. While trampolines may be great for older kids and even adults, bounce houses are usually the safest and most appropriate choice for younger ones. Depending on what you need, both options are great; all you have to do is think of what your kids want the most, and buy a quality model.
Making an informed choice is not just about safety and pricing, but also about seeing the new Bounce House you buy from a child's perspective.
