When the early settlers rolled through the grassy plains, the only things that separated land areas were the natural earth actions such as mountain ranges and river crossings. As men settled into various areas, we began to mark our territory with fences. In the land that we claimed we began to fence in our territory with barbed wire to slow down cattle thieves while making sure that our livestock did not roan to fat. This method was widely used in Virginia by early settlers.

As rural areas grew in population and housing became more crowded we started to fence off our small plots of land from our neighbors to demonstrate where our property began and where it ended. This sill holds true today.

What is different in today's world is the the wide range of fencing types and materials available and the types and styles that we can have depending on what we are trying to achieve. In fact, fencing has become such an interesting issue that contention arises over fence lines, the heights built and just about any other area of property delineation that you can think of.

Being reasonable people we then began to create fence laws so that councils and district bodies could oversee these disagreements between neighbors and make callings based on a strict set of laws governing a huge range of issues, such as who should pay to build a fence, what height should a fence allowed to be among many more issues.

Nowadays, a good fence company will have an understanding of all applicable laws and regulations and will make sure that all planning permissions have been agreed to and signed off between the person having the fence built and the district councils signed approvals. Once they have the sign off to begin, they can create the type of fence that you are looking for and if your neighbor is unhappy about this, their only recourse would be to approach the council and seek an injunction.

As you can see, there is a lot that needs to be done before the company can even be able to begin building the fence. Their job is made much easier if you are needing them just to run a repair job on an existing fence that you have. A good fencing company will be able to run repairs on any type of fence as long as the original framing is still being manufactured and available to purchase. If you have an old type fencing pattern that has been obsolete you may still be able to have it repaired, but the cost of re-fabricating new parts may make the process more expensive.

What ever your needs, a good fence company will be there to guide you through the process of planning, district council sign off, quotation of all parts and labor and will the be able to build the type of fence that you are wanting, whether it is to keep people out or to keep children, pets and other animals in. Before doing anything else, consult your local company so that you are aware of all of the requirements before you begin to plan having a new fence installed.
