Why Scoring Good in GI and Reasoning is Important?

GI and Reasoning carries a weight of 25 marks in the SSC GD constable examination. The best part about this section is that unlike other sections, which are General Awareness, Language, and current GK, it is highly predictable. That means if you have practiced enough questions of every pattern, then it becomes easy to score high. Aspirants often leave it thinking that it requires too much time to practice and master. But that belief is something that should be avoided at all costs.

With questions falling into a handful of fixed patterns, this section is one which could be leveraged to score as high as possible. Now let us have a look at some important GI topics, along with tricks, that would help you see your name on the top in SSC Constable GD result 2019

Important Topics to Prepare

Arithmetic Number Series

  • The arithmetic number series, or simply number series, fall into 4 categories:
  • Artithematic Progression
  • Geometric progression
  • Harmonic Progression
  • Miscellaneous
  • While the top three are easy to determine and then solve, most of the tricky questions fall into the fourth one. The only trick here is to practice as many questions as you could to fare well when tested against the number series.

    1. Analogies
    2. The thing that makes analogies a difficult section for many is that it deals in all subjects. English, General knowledge, political science, Literature, and Maths are all covered in this section. Though there are not more than two or three questions of analogies in any SSC level examination, they still pose the threat of negative marking. The only trick when dealing with analogies is to read as much as basic GK as possible. Name of countries, their capitals, rivers, seas, national animals, writers, and their books, are some of the points that you could go through to score well.
    3. Coding and Decoding Coding
    4. Decoding is both easy and typical. Easy if you have seen and practiced enough questions of this particular format. And typical if you don’t know the basic tricks of it and aim to solve it from scratch. The major challenge when dealing with this section is time utilization. The coding-decoding questions always look so simple and easy to solve that people tend to spend more than what is really needed. The trick to answering these questions well is to first have the right knowledge of the "letter-number system".

In this system, each letter of the English alphabet is assigned a numerical value, starting from the letter "A". That means "A" is given the value "1" and "B" is assigned as "2". We proceed in a similar fashion, assigning the next numerical values to the consecutive letters, giving "Z" the value of "26" at the end. Though this is not the only trick to remember but is sure an important one which could solve the maximum of the coding-decoding problems.

    Conclusion

Other than the above-mentioned topics, there are few more that any aspirant should remember to give proper time to. They are Relationship concepts, Similarities, and Differences, Spatial Visualization, Figures Classification, etc. One should not forget that each of these topics needs proper practice if they wish to score well and see their name in SSC Constable GD result 2019.
