Best known for its pizza, did you know that Domino’s is also a tech success story?

Knowing the industry was moving to mobile, Domino’s took a mobile-first approach and built a native mobile app with a powerfully responsive experience.

Long gone are the days where you had to phone your local Domino’s in order to a pizza. Today, Dominos’ customers can order through Apple TV, Google Home, Amazon Echo, Ford Sync, SMS, Samsung Smart TVs, smartwatches and other emerging platforms such as via Tweets, Slack and Facebook Messenger.

That’s right. A chatbot can interact with you via Facebook Messenger, allow you to choose from a full menu and keep you updated on the status of your order without requiring you to leave the Messenger app.

How well do you know the world’s #2 pizza company? There’s only one way to find out.

  1. The first ever pizza delivered by drone was in fact 2 pizzas; a Domino’s Peri-Peri Chicken and a Chicken and Cranberry pizza. It happened in New Zealand in 2016 although the company admitted that drone delivery is still a way off. Did you know that the drone that delivered the pizzas was a Domino’s Robotic Unit (DRU) Drone by Flirtey? Constructed of carbon fibre, aluminium and 3D-printed components, the fully autonomous drone has been accepted into the Aviation collection at Auckland’s Museum of Transport and Technology.

  2. Almost 400 searches are performed for the term "domino’s Australia coupons" on any given month with sites such as extras.com.au, ozbargain.com.au and even dominos.com.au themselves offering discount vouchers.

  3. Domino’s has a dedicated team to coordinate the entire process from site selection to having the store ready for opening. Using spatial information to map out precise geographic boundaries, Domino’s uses location intelligence technology to reduce the legal risks associated with territorial disputes between competing franchise operations.

  4. Built upon Microsoft Azure, online and digital sales now represent 70 percent of Domino’s total sales.

  5. Over 60% of the company’s revenue comes from ingredient sales to franchisees.

  6. The 3 dots in the logo represent the first 3 stores back in 1969.

  7. It is the second largest pizza restaurant chain in the world, second to Pizza Hut. However, in Australia, it is the market leader.

  8. Domino’s sells more than 1.5 million pizzas on average every day across more than 15,000 locations worldwide.

  9. Domino’s developed the first cardboard pizza box in the 1960’s but never patented it.

  10. Domino’s Australia makes more than 60 million pizzas a year.

  11. In Australia, the average Domino’s franchise store can cost half a million dollars (including GST) to start.

  12. The first Domino’s store to open in Australia was in Springwood, QLD in 1983.

  13. Domino’s Australia employs 26,000 people.

  14. The first female Domino’s franchisee outside of the United States was Suyapa Anaya who opened a store in San Pedro Sula, Honduras in 1987.

  15. Domino’s became the first pizza company to list on the Australian Stock Exchange in 2005.

  16. Domino’s in Mexico, Malaysia, Pakistan, Spain, New Zealand and Taiwan sell Pepsi while in all other countries, the pizza chain serves Coca-Cola products.

  17. Domino’s sold as many pizzas during OJ Simpson's car chase back in 1994 as it did on Superbowl Sunday.

How did you go? You’re now officially a Domino’s trivia expert.

PS - is anyone else craving for pizza?
