Dr. Fatih Uckun’s passion for medicine and research developed at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, which he attended after finishing high school at the German High School, Turkey. At the university, he earned his MD and PhD status. Afterwards, he relocated to the United States of America for his internship and residency at the University of Minnesota. He was involved in paediatrics. It is also at this university that Dr. Fatih Uckun began his teaching career.

Dr. Fatih Uckun also extended his studies to include a research fellowship. He studied Microbiology, Immunology and Biochemistry. He extended his studies to include a clinical fellowship in Oncology, Pediatric Hematology and blood and bone marrow transplant. He studied these courses at the University of Minnesota between 1985 and 1992.

Dr. Fatih Uckun became a Full Professor of Research Paediatrics at Keck School of Medicine in 2010. This school belongs to the University of Southern California.

Some of the achievements of Dr. Fatih Uckun include but are not limited to:

Hughes Chair in Biotherapy: The doctor received this prestigious award from the Academic Health Center of the University of Minnesota’s in 1996. He was the first recipient to ever receive this award. Dr. Uckun began as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Therapeutic Radiology - Radiation Oncology in 1986. By 1990, he was an Associate Professor with tenure. His work extended to Pharmacology by 1992. He became a full professor with tenure in 1993 and continued working in the paediatrics, Oncology, Pharmacology departments respectively.

Co-founder of Parker Hughes Institute: The institute opened in 1997. With the financial assistance of billionaire businessman Wayne Hughes, the doctor served in the research department as the director from 1997 to 2008. He served in this institute for eleven years

Author of more than four hundred and seventy peer review papers. These papers discuss biopharmaceuticals and developmental therapeutics. His more than twenty five years experience as a university professor and in paediatric cancer research makes him a much sought after lecturer in the same field.

Guest lecturer at the Gordon Research Conferences in Waterville, Maine.

Member of organizing committees for different symposia and conferences in his specialties all over the world.

Editor-in-Chief and associate editor of Leukaemia & Lymphoma and International Journal of Radiation, Oncology, Biology and Physics.

Some of the duties of Dr. Fatih Uckun include the following:

Member of the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center

Adjunct Professor of Paediatrics, Konya, Turkey: He holds this position in the Department of Paediatric Oncology, Selçuklu School of Medicine, Selçuk University.

Developmental Therapeutics Program: Dr. Uckun serves as the head of this program. The program is also affiliated with the Children’s Hospital, Los Angeles, through the Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases.

Head of the federally funded Nanomedicine Research & Development Program at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. The program also works with the National Cancer Institute Alliance on Nanotechnology against Cancer.

Leadership Committee member of the Developmental Therapeutics Program Working Group of the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Institute for Paediatric Clinical Research at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
