Founded in 2007 by Vito Gamberale, F2i is an initiative of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, banking institutions and foundations and pension funds. The first acquisition, which consisted on 15.7% of Alerion Clean Power S.p.A., dated May 2008, five months after the end of the first closing of the fund (1,55 billions). In 2009 F2i became a shareholder of HFV, Interporto Rivalta Scrivia and Enel Rete Gas: investments for a total of 550 million. In 2010 the fund expanded its activities to the water and airport areas with the acquisition of Mediterranea delle Acque and of a majority stake in GESAC - Aeroporto di Napoli Capodichino. In 2011 F2i fit into the market of telecommunications by acquiring, in partnership with Intesa Sanpaolo, the 100% of Metroweb, leader company for the management of optical fiber in Milan. The same year, with the acquisition of G6 Rete Gas, in partnership with AXA, the fund led by Vito Gamberale obtained approximately the 20% of the market for the distribution of gas. In the following years, F2i acquired shares in SEA, Sagat and TRM - Trattamento Rifiuti Metropolitani. In 2012 a second fund started with a collection target of 1.200 million.
