10 Common Problems Faced by the Truck Drivers
Posted: Apr 12, 2019
The transport industry is recently running short of truck drivers and it’s not very hard to see why. There are plenty of reasons as to why this industry is going underemployed. Here are a few reasons to list out the problems faced by the truck drivers.
1. Poor vehicle maintenance and upkeep
Most transport companies don’t pay much attention to the conditions and upkeep of the vehicles. They have a very short-term vision of things and hence don’t want to spend on the maintenance of the trucks. Due to this, drivers get very uncomfortable while driving.
2. Health and safety
A lot of truck drivers face the problem of exposure to harmful gases and liquids which they have to transport in their vehicle. Taking measures to stop the after-effects of hazardous substances is a must.
3. Long hours
Most truck drivers work more than 50 hours a week, which is a lot if you consider in terms of how much they get paid. However, this fatigue is one of the causes of road accidents. 82% of road accidents are caused due to the tiredness and lack of sleep
4. Pressure to drive under unsafe conditions
The drivers have to follow the deadlines given to them with an unsafe number of loads and conditions. According to recent studies, around 20% of the drivers break the road safety rules in order to meet up with the deadlines.
5. Change in legislation
To make the transport industry safer, the legislation keeps on changing with new improvements in it. But what they don’t get is the fact that it’s hard to keep up with changing rules and regulations. MC truck jobs in Sydney often struggle to cope up with these changes and it becomes very hard to understand them.
6. Limited rest stops
Although to avoid fatigue, the drivers must be allowed to take enough rest stops but there are very few stops for trucks on the road. However, the stops which are strictly made for truck drivers are in really bad conditions and have poor hygiene as well. Due to these factors, the truck drivers are not able to make enough rest stops and hence get tired easily.
7. Drivers don’t get a say
We all are well aware of the fact that the drivers have to put up with a lot of unsafe conditions and unrealistic deadlines. About 20% of the drivers say that they can’t voice up against the unsafe load that they are supposed to transport. MC driving jobs in Sydney takes care of most of these things.
8. Lots of work and less pay
Most truck drivers, as we discussed earlier, work for more than 50 hours a week so one can think that must be paid very handsomely. But sadly, the answer is no. Truck drivers in the business get paid a lot less than we think. It’s quite less with the amount of risk they put themselves into.
9. Lack of health care
As the drivers spend most of their time on the road it’s very hard for them to get nice and hygienic home-made food. They always have to eat packaged food and beverages which can severely spoil their health in the long run.
10. Strain on relationships
Due to the fact that they spend most of their time on the road, they get very minimum family time to spend. This could put a lot of strain on their relationships and sometimes even break families due to time issues.
The issues are too many but very little has been done to sort this out. There are various agencies that help you find MC jobs in Sydney according to your needs and specifications.
