Nissan Dealers News: The X Opus Concept Unveiled

Posted: Apr 12, 2019
As your local Nissan dealers, we like to keep our customers and interested parties up to date with the latest Nissan news. This is even true when the technology is not even a car, and so we are happy to talk about the new Nissan X Opus camping trailer. This was recently revealed at Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show in Birmingham, UK. Let’s take a closer look at why this trailer is so interesting.
The Opus X Concept
It’s not likely that you will see the Opus X Concept trailer at your Nissan car dealership anytime soon. However, it does use some interesting Nissan technology that will undoubtedly interest Nissan car fans and camping enthusiasts alike. The Opus X trailer uses a Nissan Leaf EV battery pack to provide around seven days of off grid power for the user. Although this is an Opus Campers concept, Nissan has been involved, and this is more of a collaboration.
The Leaf EV Battery Pack
The Leaf EV second life battery packs that are used in the Opus X concept trailer are quite interesting. They use the new Nissan "Energy Roam" system; this is a portable battery pack that has a 700Wh capacity, and it’s weatherproof. This concept camping trailer also has 12v and 230v circuitry to plug in a wide variety of devices. There is enough power for approximately seven days of camping if you use the included onboard solar panel. This would make the Opus X a fantastic resource for true off grid camping for those that like remote adventures and access to power.
The Nissan Press Release
Nissan stated in a recent press release that "The concept allows campers to remain connected and enjoy the comforts of home while having the freedom to travel to remote areas." and it’s easy to agree with this. In fact, the system is even more versatile, as we mentioned above the "Energy Roam" pack is portable. The power storage unit can be easily removed from the trailer and recharged at a standard outlet. Alternatively, the onboard solar panel can be used to recharge to the system.
The Nissan Energy Viewpoint
For those not in the know, Nissan has a division dedicated to exploring residential power storage solutions. The is known as Nissan Energy, and the managing director is Francisco Carranza. In a recent interview, Mr. Carranza said "The new Nissan Energy Roam is able to deliver clean, sustainable power to the most remote of locations, and be enjoyed by everyone." and this would be hard to dispute. In fact, one could easily see this sort of trailer being deployed to disaster areas or third world countries as part of a relief effort. Access to reliable power can often make a real difference, and the Opus X or some similar variant would certainly be able to fill that role.
