Whether or not you are just kick-starting your career, or you have been in the industry for a long time, you will agree that start-ups offer you a much wider field where you can do more than envisaged. Having met several successful entrepreneurs in my over thirty years of being in the industry, I have been able to identify over six main traits of successful entrepreneurs. I will share these traits with you.

The large companies we see today all had humble beginnings. They also faced challenges but were able to scale through because they were committed. While you may at times feel intimidated by people who went to good schools, have better working experience, or occupy high positions in large companies, it is important that you remember that developing an entrepreneurial will give you an edge.

1. There is no substitute for hard work

The only way to get to the top right now is to roll up your sleeves and get to work. That is the only way you can find yourself at the top. There has not been an achievement that was not borne out of hard work. This is the only way you can get to that place you so desire.

2. Challenge the status quo

Most people live and die with the mantra "that is the way things are done" or "since time immemorial we've always done these things this way". As an entrepreneur, you need to challenge the status quo. You need to be inquisitive, ask questions. One of the most reasons why most people never question the status quo is because it is less risky and perceived as being comfortable and predictable.

3. Be decisive

As an entrepreneur, you need to be able to make those tough decisions. You need to be able to settle for unpopular opinions. In history, strong leaders have been able to make those tough calls while others are contemplating the easy the way out.

4. Identify problems

As an entrepreneur, there are times when you will have to acknowledge that there are big problems that need to be addressed. These problems have been referred to as "elephants". They are those problems that people would rather not discuss.

5. Accountability

To run a company successfully, an entrepreneur needs to be accountable. Although it takes guts, you need to be able to face the consequences of your decisions.

6. Optimism

As an optimist, you see opportunities in every problem. To successfully run a business, you always need to be optimistic and exude positive energy.

Conclusion

All that being said, there is no one right way to be successful. Play to your skills and never be afraid to be excellent. The more you prove yourself as a capable, hard-working individual, the further your circle of influence will grow and the more opportunities will present themselves to you.

It may take a while for you to reach your goal of success but if you put in work every day, you will ultimately find yourself rewarded and proud of what you have accomplished.
