The traffic in Mumbai is quite well known. People of Mumbai are always busy, and the city is awake twenty-four hours of the day. Hence the traffic is normal. Commuting is a great tension to the Mumbai inhabitants. They need to start quite ahead of time to reach a certain destination. So a huge transformation is coming to the Mumbai traffic. And that would be bringing a heavy sigh of relief to the Mumbai people.

A huge investment has been made by the cabinet and central minister on behalf of the Mumbai transport system. It has been done to develop the connectivity of the city from one point to the other point. These connectivity transports are expected to be completed in the next five to six years. Not only road transportation but also railway transportation, metro, airways, and even the waterways will be experiencing a huge change.

Various projects of the MMR

Let’s have a look at how the Mumbai people would be transporting in the near future:

  • Mumbai trans harbor link

It is a freeway grade road bridge which will link Mumbai to Navi Mumbai. It is 21.8 km long. It will shorten the distance between Panvel and south Mumbai. Even this would develop Panvel as the central business district.

  • The multimodal corridor from Virar to Alibaug

It is the 126 km long multimodal corridor between the two places which will cut short their distance by half. It is one of the most ambitious projects of the Mumbai metropolitan region which covers seven MMR centers including the upcoming Panvel too.

  • Coastal road project

It is another 29.2 km freeway which would be built parallel to the Mumbai coastline and connects the marine lines. This would connect the Mumbai’s western coastline to South and then to Kandivali in north Mumbai. This will decongest Mumbai’s traffic a lot

  • Mumbai urban transport project 3 A

This includes the following project:

a. Extension of the harbor link between Goregaon and Borivali

b. The fifth and sixth line on Borivali and Virar corridor

c. The fourth line on the kalian- Asangoan stretch

d. Segregation of the long distance and suburban traffic- Kalyan yard

e. The train control system on the harbor, central and western lines.

  • Navi Mumbai International Airport

This being constructed based on the public-private partnership (PPP) model and is already under construction. This would reduce the excessive pressure on the Chhatrapati Shivaji airport. The area of the construction has been notified by the state government.

  • Metro rail network

A total extension of 275 km of metro rail line along the MMR lines will also be constructed by 2022. This is another great connectivity of the city from one end part of the city to another.

Thus Mumbai people can be relieved from the very popular Mumbai’s traffic after all these are done. Through various struggles and delays, these projects would be expected to be completed by the next five year terms. So let’s wait for that time of happy traveling.
