It is often that used car buyers ignore or simply miss out on some important things while negotiating with sellers. This could possibly be due to ignorance, a careless approach, lack of understanding about the process or some other reason. Find out about some of the top things that you should not miss while conducting a used car check.

Car’s History Report

You can check the car history report by using its Vehicle Identification Number. In case you do not know, each car has a special number known as the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). You can find it on the door jam or on the dashboard on the driver’s side. It is all that you need in order to start obtaining a car history report. A History and Condition Report, another name given to a vehicle history report, can let you find out about whether the car has suffered any major mishaps, is stolen, is different from the model type being shown etc.

Car’s Physical State

Make a comprehensive evaluation of the state of the car. Find out whether it has a proper suspension, and no component is missing, fractured or bent. You should also check the belts and make sure they are flexible and positioned properly. Check the windshield wipers of the car, and find out whether they are worn out or cracked. The wipers should be workable even in rough climate, as you would always require good visibility – even more during the monsoons or when it is night. Check the car’s gauges, and ensure that they are in a normal state. Look at the tachometer reading while the engine is an idle state. In case you find some abnormalities, there is reason to be cautious. Buyers are advised to go for some other car in that case.

Seller’s Behavior

It is also important that you check how the seller behaves while showing his car. If he seems to be rude or curt in his replies, there is reason to suspect that it is a façade to hide various things – such as hiding the actual ownership to the car, pending financial encumbrances, rolled back odometer reading and more. He or she could be acting rudely on purpose, to dissuade you from asking more questions about the car. It is better to avoid these types of sellers, as you could be in for more trouble with your car afterwards.

Papers And Documents

Many used car buyers, in their eagerness to own a vehicle, tend to ignore checking out car documents before purchase. Wrong! This is a bad idea, as wrong papers or incorrect information can put you in trouble soon after purchase. You never know if the car has some financial dues against it, and whether it could be repossessed. You do not know whether the car has undergone maintenance recently or has not been serviced even once. Such information is important when you have to buy a second hand car. With the right papers, you can find out all about the car.
