Lord Ganesha statues can be classified depending on the postures, characteristics and position of the trunk. In the presence of so many postures, it will be tough to decide the right one for your home or for gifting to your friends or relatives.

There are mainly four types of Ganesha statues based on the posture of the deity:

Dancing Ganesha: You can also find various statues of Ganesha in dancing postures. The posture is often related to dance of destruction. You do not find statues of this posture commonly in offices and homes. In this posture, Lord Ganesha is often seen dancing on mouse. The statue also displays the courage and strength of the little creature mouse.

Reclining Ganesha: You will find statues of reclining Ganesha in homes but not in pooja room. In the statue, the deity is seen resting on pillow and supporting himself with one arm. The idol symbolises luxury and comfort.

Buy statues of Ganesha with trunk bended towards left: You should buy Lord Ganesha’s statues with his trunk bended towards left as they are easy to please with minimal poojas and offerings. If you are planning to buy the statue with the trunk bended towards the right, make sure that you tell the recipient that the statue demands special poojas and offerings to keep him happy.

Avoid dancing Ganesha statue: The dancing form of Lord Ganesha statue popularly known as Nritya Ganesha or Natraj Ganesha should be avoided from keeping in the pooja room. However, they can be perfect choice for gifting to creative people like dancers and artists.

Avoid creative representation of Ganesha for worshiping: You may think of using creative statues of Ganesha for home decor or gifts. Creative statues may include Lord Ganesha playing table, leaning on pillow, lying on banyan leaf etc. They should not be purchased for keeping in the pooja room.

Height: The maximum height of Lord Ganesha’s statue should not exceed above 18 inches if you are buying it for placing in the pooja room. The idol should be placed at a higher platform. However, you may buy ganesha’s idols of any size for home decor.

Never select or keep broken statues: You should always avoid buying broken Ganesha statues for your home as they may bring bad luck.
