Had its first independent mission in 1962
Indian Navy’s first independent mission was Goa’s War of Liberation, conducted in the year 1961 against the Portuguese Army. Goes without saying, the Indian Navy outfought the enemy, and Goa was made a part of Independent India.
Owns the fastest cruise missile in the world
Brahmos, a supersonic cruise missile, can be launched from submarine, ships, aircraft, or land. It is the fastest missile of its kind.
Has the largest naval academy in Asia
The INA Ezhimala, located at Kannur district of Kerala, is the largest initial officer training academy in the whole of Asia. Established in May 1969, the academy is spread in an area of about 10 square km and has the capacity to house 4000 people.
MARCOS program has record 90% Drop-Out Rate
MARCOS, previously known as Marine Commando Force, is an expert team of commandos capable of conducting missions on all kinds of geographical locations. Though the unit was first commissioned to conduct maritime warfare by Navy, it has now turned into a lethal one by putting itself against some of the harshest and dangerous situations possible.
Has one of the two naval aerobatic teams in the world
Sagar Pawan of Indian navy is one of the only two naval aerobatic teams in the world. The other one is Blue Angels, by the US Navy.
Conducts humanitarian missions
When it comes to protecting people, the Indian navy extends its support for conducting international operations. From providing disaster relief to neighboring countries like Sri Lanka and Mauritius to conducting missions for finding missing crews of countries located far away, this naval wing expects nothing in return when risking its resources for humanitarian issues.
Has completed expeditions to cover all the three poles
Under the command of Commander Satyabrata Dam, a 10 member team of Indian Navy reached the North pole in the year 2008. Indian Navy was the first organization in the world to undertake and successfully conduct expeditions to all the three poles of the world; North Pole, South Pole, and the Mt. Everest.
Owns a Satellite
Developed by Indian Space Research Organisation and Space Applications Centre, GSAT-7 is a multiband military communication satellite that helps the Indian Navy to stop relying on foreign satellite for sake of its blue water capabilities.
