The medical personnel has managed to save millions of life just because of consistent advancement in the field of medicine and pharmaceuticals. The technology is bound to get even more advanced in the future and be a shield to human beings preventing them from dangerous diseases. Some of the advancements that took place in the medical field include electronic medical records, health wearables, telehealth, etc.

Let us now study in detail about the ‘Digitalisation’ in the medical field. The advancement of technology in the medical field is a matter of human interest and having knowledge of the advancements can be helpful. Let your family and friends know about these updates as well.

Technological Advancements in Medical Field

With the passing of time, the long-established line between engineering and medical science has grown thinner. The medical machines have become faster and smarter, which has led to doctors feeling at ease. Advancements like wireless technologies have helped doctors in diagnosing and treating diseases as soon as possible. Some of the technologies that have won hearts are:

1. Smart Inhalers: The patients did not take the advice of the doctors seriously. They definitely did not see this coming. Only 50% of people with asthma have their condition under control and approximately 94% of the patients do not use inhalers properly.

Bluetooth-enabled smart inhalers were developed to help asthma patients. The tiny device attached to the inhalers notes the date and time of each dose. The data is then sent to the patients’ smartphones to help them keep track of their condition.

2. Electronic Health Records Software: The introduction of EHR software has been very helpful. From documenting the clinical notes to viewing summaries of patients, creating comprehensive case notes and prescribing medicines, the EHR software has made medical practice easier for doctors.

The EHR software not only prescribes drugs but records procedure details, create immunization plans and keep a track of the condition of the patient. EHR software also has special features like effective management of patients’ follow-ups, summarizing past visit details, medication protocols, automated SMS/ email reminders.

  1. Health wearables: As soon as digitalization hit India, the demand for wearable devices has been growing. Keeping pace with the technology, wearable was introduced to track your footsteps, physical fitness, heartbeat to the calories burnt. Late 2018 saw the coming of Apple Watch (series 4) that had an integrated ECG to monitor the wearer’s heartbeat.
  2. Telehealth: The current world is technologically driven and more than 50% of the population prefers digital services. Telehealth refers to the speeding advancement of technology, which allows patients to receive medical care through their respective digital devices. This saves time and effort put into getting an appointment and waiting to meet the doctor face-to-face.

A lot of mobile applications were introduced in order to allow patients to speak to doctors and other medical professionals virtually and receive immediate advice and help.

Bottom Line

The rate of growth and development in the field of medicine and pharmaceuticals will keep speeding up and continue to improve. The developments like the electronic medical records may not sound that important, but you don’t know what’s ahead of you. Every second there is some advancement taking place. Doctors are trying to find cures for the incurable. The revolutionary technological advancement in the field of medicine and pharmaceuticals is still growing at a lightning speed. The best is yet to come.
