he Duchess of Cambridge will be the style inspiration for celebrity tennis fans at Wimbledon, a stylist to the stars has said.

The tennis tournament has attracted famous faces in the past including former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, pop stars Gwen Stefani and Shakira, singer Diana Ross, model Suki Waterhouse as well as Kate and her sister, Pippa Middleton.

Famous men who have taken in the action include Hollywood stars Bradley Cooper and Gerard Butler, rocker Ronnie Wood, singer Cliff Richard and Harry Potter actor Rupert Grint.

This year, a similar set of A-listers are likely to take their seats on Centre Court, and the women are set to follow Kate's elegant lead when it comes to deciding what to wear.

Alex Longmore, a celebrity fashion stylist who has worked with stars including model Claudia Schiffer and TV's Amanda Holden, said this summer will be "all about the dress".

Conveniently fitting in with Wimbledon's tradition of the players wearing white, Ms Longmore said the colour is a "huge trend" this season.

"But it will be all about the dress. Forget separates and trousers - it's going to be all about knee-length dresses, inspired by the Duchess of Cambridge's look.

"I think we will see demure dressing rather than the spaghetti-strap look that has been popular courtside in years before," she said.

Ms Longmore also has some advice for stars who will be photographed and their style choices subsequently analysed.

"As the celebrities will be sitting down watching the sets, it's imperative that they wear something that won't crease when they stand and get papped, so silk is a great option for this and linen is most definitely out," she said.

Sunglasses are a staple of the tournament, and no star will come to SW19 without a pair of shades at the ready.

Ms Longmore said there will be lots of mirrored sunglasses on show, adding: "Ray Ban and Victoria Beckham's designs have been popular this season, with blue and green lenses being seen on the likes of Cara Delevingne and her sister Poppy."

But the great British summertime does not guarantee heat and sunshine, and so the stars should also prepare for the dreaded Wimbledon downpours.

The celebrity stylist said she expects to see a lot of loose blazer styles in black and navy worn in a bid to keep the rain off.

Ms Longmore added: "I predict an elegant Wimbledon this year with white taking centre court followed closely by an array of block pastel colours, and, for those celebrities that really want to hog the limelight, bold reds."

Meanwhile, fashion and brand expert Nick Ede expects the tennis stars to sport an "aerodynamic look".

He said: "We will see sports luxe style bodycon dresses with heavy pleating teamed with flashes of neon and splashes of colour.

"Hair will be worn up and again there will be an emphasis on dynamic sleek style giving the players that aerodynamic look."

Mr Ede expects to see female spectators in summer dresses in "block colours highlighted with bright or metallic belts to emphasise waists".

As matches can run into the night, the expert said women will bring fitted jackets with neat shoulder pads adorned with light embellishment.

"All in all, expect this season to be a sea of bright, strong colour, pretty pastels and bright white and neon accents. I can't wait! But bring your shades!" he said.
