Religions Preaching about Charity

In whichever country you live and whichever religion you practice, you must be familiar with the practice of charity. The very positive aspect of this noble deed is that it is appreciated in all religions. All parts of the globe encourage the practice of giving charity to the needy people. Some give it directly to the deserving people which many give it to welfare trust and non-profit, non-government organizations. This way, on a global map charity, stays active and alive without any criticism. All religious scholars confirm the fact that their respective religions mention nothing against charity.

Let’s see how the charity is seen in different religions across the world.

1. Islam: Islam is based on five main pillars. Out of which the fourth pillar is that of Zakat, also called charity. Every Muslim is supposed to give 2.5% of his total wealth and assets every year. Not only Zakat but other forms of charity such as Sadaqah, Fidya and Khairaat are also given. It is believed that giving Zakat purifies not only the wealth of an individual but also their soul, spirit and mentality. The deserving people are categorized into eight groups: The poor, the needy, the slaves (for their freedom), the traveler (who is low on financial assistance), the Zakat collector, the person in debt and lastly, the person who is away from his home in the way of Allah.
2. Christianity: All Christians strongly support the teaching of Bible Jesus in which it is taught to help your fellow humans. It is mentioned in the Holy Bible that the Christians will not be judged and tested on the basis of the quality and kind of altars. In fact, your purity and piousness are marked on the basis of how much you give. Therefore, Christianity talks about how everyone is your brother and how you are supposed to help your needy brothers.
3. Judaism: Jewish have huge respect when it comes to the act of charity. They give huge amounts of charity both on the national and international level. It is a significant part of their religion. One intrinsic part of Judaism is tzedakah. It is a word that purely means justice and righteousness. They believe that giving away money as charity to the needy and deserving people around them brings justice and righteousness in their society. Hence, charity holds an important place in the religion of Judaism.
4. Buddhism: Another religion which is practiced in a big part of the world has a strong belief in contributing a lot by giving charity. In Buddhism, they have a special word like that in Islam and Judaism. This word is Dana which is a version of work donation in Sanskrit and Pali languages. It turns out that many Buddhists give charity all year round to maintain a financially stable environment. Since the maximum ratio of Buddhism lies in Myanmar therefore on a global scale among Buddhists, Myanmar stands out the most.

This now proves that religions only bring benefit to the locality. All religions support charity.
