Lailunga, the village of colours, brought a divine touch into human minds with its culture and celebration of life. Back then, it may have been devoid of roads, electricity, and telephones, but it was not devoid of joy, togetherness and a sense of community. It was not uncommon for everyone to meet almost daily, and discuss the happenings of their lives with each other.

The village acted as a closely knit family. No one was a stranger here. It bore only one rudimentary Hindi medium government school which every child of Lailunga attended with pride. The mud streets, cow stables, chaupals (AamChowk), lanterns, fairs and festivals Icould tell you about may sound like a cliché, but Lailunga really was a quaint little happy village.

Talking about me, I was born on November 26, 1958, on a foggy Wednesday morning, in ourhouse at Raigarh. There were no hospitals or clinics in Lailunga at that time, so I was born in the house under the supervision of a midwife and my eldest sister.

An eager child who was always hungry for answers. I was the curious one bombarding my father with questions about life and the relevance of serving others. My father answered my complex queries in a very simple down to earth manner and said; "When people come to you with some hope that you can resolve their problem, never say "No". God has blessed you with so much that you are in a position to help others. The moment you deny, even that blessing from the Almighty will be taken away from you".

Stop the Presses…..

Not one in a million- An Autobiography by O.P Singhania with Lory Pattanaik dives through many phases of life and takes a close watch to his early life, effort, hardship, fortitude, luck and chance that eventually led him to become one of the top class Chartered Accountant of Central India. The moving memoir of this book is a recollection of his young days which is a good suggestive to the Malgudi Days set up in search of his identity. This journey is about himself as he painlessly takes the reader with him to witness that identity. The recounting of this emotional yet sentimental odyssey begins from Lailunga to Raigarh, Kolkata and finally ending at Raipur. He remembers his parents, teachers, family, relatives and most influential characters in this book, offering a tribute to all of them for being a part of his life. Adding color to the plots are some of the pictures of that time. This segment covers the all early learnings and travels.

This is a rendition of the struggles, of the relationships between families, of the challenges faced, and of the test of times faced by the best C.A of Chattisgarh O.P Singhania who survived with his utmost dedication, honesty and hard work in personal and professional life.

The knowledge one acquires from reading one autobiography is more than that acquire from reading a few novels. The readers can blend into the characters and witness the history from first-hand experience. Besides, why wouldn’t you learn from successful people who have experienced all the ups and downs before they succeeded?
