As one of the largest and busiest capitals in the world, London is well known for always having something going on, and for being one of the world’s main hubs for innovation and creativity. For centuries, enough art, literature and culture has emanated from this city to place it at the forefront of the worldwide innovation scene, and many artists still repatriate or look to London for inspiration.

London engagement ring designers display some of the best examples of this tendency. The City has been historically linked to the jewellery craft for centuries, and in recent years, a new wave of exciting young designers has risen, ready to take the world of accessories by storm. Predictably, these newcomers all share the unique artistic flair which has put London on the design map, and which, in their particular case, is helped by the large number of exhibitions and jewellery shows occurring in London each year.

In fact, the British capital is the setting for a surprising number of jewellery shows from which these young London engagement ring designers can cull inspiration, or which they can use to showcase their work and advertise their craft.

Probably the most prestigious and best known among these events is the Goldsmiths Fair, held in the hall of St Paul’s Cathedral every autumn. This event goes on for two weeks and represents the best opportunity for independent London engagement ring designers to showcase their work to the general public. The value of this opportunity is well demonstrated by the hundreds of designers who sign up each year to take part in this trade show.

Those who do not feel the Goldsmiths Fair would do anything for their career, or who were simply unable to join it in time, should not despair, however. Plenty of other shows offer the opportunity to display recent products and also potentially to glean inspiration from what other designers are doing. A good example is the London Jewellery Week, which occurs in June and includes an open evening where up-and-coming London engagement ring designers can present their creations to members of the London Jewellery Society. The International Jewellery London festival, held in early September in Earls’ Court, is another good place in which to exhibit wares and seek inspiration. The specialist seminars held during the event and the many opportunities to buy materials at friendly prices are also considered good reasons to attend this festival.

Other jewellery-related London festivals held on an annual basis include Origin, an arts and crafts fair held at Spitalfields; Collect, an event of the same type held at the Saatchi gallery, and two Christmastime shows, Dazzle and the LJS Christmas Party. With this many opportunities at hand, there should be no reason for any young London jewellery designer not to present his or her pieces on a larger stage.

Frank L Orman is the founder of the F&L Designer Guides, compiled and written to help consumers choose the best and the most unique London engagement ring designers in the capital. Offering advice, tips and suggestions on how to choose that perfect ring, F&L will accompany you on every stage of your search to find the right designer.
