Caring for Sensitive Skin with Acne

As well as suffering from acne many people have the added problem of sensitive skin. Most acne skin care remedies use harsh ingredients such as glycolic and salicylic acids as active components. These acids, also known as alpha and beta hydroxy acids are extremely harsh and attack the skin instead of nurturing it. The action is simply to dry out the acne, not heal it with medicinal grade plant extracts. Drying out acne is not a long term solution. And the harsh ingredients irritate sensitive skin. It’s advisable to use sensitive skin sunscreen when using these acid ingredients as they make the skin sun sensitive. But the best advice is to find nutritive skin care products that will heal the acne problem and give a long ter solution. Here are some other tips for caring for sensitive skin with acne.

Gentle Cleansers to help acne and sensitive skin.

Perhaps the most important daily step to help heal acne is to clean skin effectively – and gently. It is a misconception that excess oil causes acne. Instead it is the continued presence of bacteria in the pores that contributes to the problem – bacteria that isn’t cleansed away efficiently. So it is essential to clean the face and neck in the morning and at night. But most cleansers either strip the skin, leading to more acne and sensitive skin problems. Other types of cleansers are composed of fatty oils which congest the skin. For the best results for acne and sensitive skin use a nutritive cleanser which efficiently but gently cleanses cellular debris from the skin and leaves skin feeling fresh and hydrated.

Use a wash cloth or not?

It is perfectly fine to use the same face washer every day for a week or so before laundering it – if you are the only person using this. Do not ever share a face washer. It is not necessary to use a face washer. If the nutritive face cleanser you apply washes off easily, simply rinse your face under the shower or at the basin. However always make sure that the water temperature is tepid, not too hot.

Nutritive exfoliation

Most cases of sensitive skin are as a result of using harsh products, particularly acid peels. Using an acis peel is actually the worst thing that you can do to your skin. There may be an initial ‘glow’ from using an acid peel but this is only a temporary result with no long lasting improvement to skin. Did you ever see anyone over 50 who has beautiful skin and who says they have acid peels? No. The people who sore by acid peels at a younger age now have depleted looking skin and have by their fifties turned in desperation to cosmetic treatment to try to have good looking skin. The best practice that you can do for beautiful skin is nutritive exfoliation. This doubles as blackheads treatment because it cleans out the pores as well as reducing sun damge. Exfoliating is only effective for improving skin, including sensitive skin, in the long term if it is nutritive exfoliating.

Keep the skin pores clear

When the skin pores are clogged, there is no free circulation of air and blood between the skin tissues. The result is stressed skin which is prone to acne attack. In most of the adult acne treatments or treatments for sensitive skins, the use of skin care products which have pore clogging ingredients are highly discouraged. These ingredients include thick, insoluble oils which should never be used on the face such as olive oil, sunflower oil and of course, shea butter. Skin care products with such ingredients should be avoided to keep the skin pores clear.
