Advancements in the Touch Screen Technology

Technological advancements have in the last few decades happened faster than ever before. Changes that used to be gradual and slow have become very fast paced: so much so that the older generations have problems staying on top of the changes. This puts technological companies in a lot of crossfire. Designing products and technologies that are practical, powerful and easy to learn is not an easy task, but one that these companies should embrace fully.

Touch screen technology for example is a technology that has a lot of potential, because it has the possibility of giving interactive guidance to its users in an intuitive way during use. This technology has been seen in use by most of us on tablets and cell phones, but some of us might also remember how badly they worked just five years ago.

Now the field has seen a leap in evolution when the screens have been made into a multi-touch table, which is a table sized screen that can discern an unlimited amount of touch points at the same time. On top of this the touch surface can also discern what user is touching it at any given time and can also identify items placed on the surface and for example read barcodes. It can also be used with ir pens allowing the user to write and mark the surface with them.

A table doesn’t seem so spectacular, but how about a multi-touch wall? Imagine the possibilities of a whole wall with unlimited unique users using it at the same time, for example to do art or get directions to wherever they want to go. The system is capable of saving files, sharing them, can be remotely controlled for updates and works with all the usual operating systems.

This kind of technology has great potential especially when it comes to user-friendliness. A lot of the usual problems have been eliminated and it could be possible to reach a new level of interactivity, where multiple people can use one big smart surface together.
