The adrenal gland (Glandula andrenalis) is a small hormone-producing gland that sits like a cap on the kidney. In the adrenals, the hormones of the stress are mainly produced.

Adrenal fatigue occurs when massive stress with inadequate rest periods overtaxes the adrenal glands. In the initial stages of the disease we usually find too much cortisol, while in the later stages it can lead to a lack of cortisol. It is important to use a saliva test to measure the amount of cortisol produced during the day. As part of such a test, other hormones such as epinephrine, DHEA, dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin are usually measured. The absolute amount and the ratio of the individual hormones to each other can be an important diagnostic aid.

Normally cortisol must be highest in the morning and fall off during the day. With a pronounced adrenal exhaustion, one typically sees a "mirrored" profile with low cortisol levels in the morning and high cortisol levels in the evening.

What can you do?

The range of therapeutic approaches is as diverse as the causes. In essence, you have to look at three aspects:

  1. Stress management
  2. Nutrition
  3. Move

Lifestyle changes are mandatory for a successful cure. Change is neither convenient nor easy or straightforward. But necessary!

1. stress management

It is very important to find out what actually stresses you and what is good for you. Especially at the beginning, activities that are actually fun, for example the daily run or the crossfit training, can be just too much. If it is not possible to change the stressors, then you should definitely seek professional help to learn how to handle these situations.

In principle, all measures should be taken which can help in Adrenal Fatigue Ayurvedic Remedies in everyday life, such as yoga, talk therapy, autogenic training, etc.

2. Sufficient rest periods and at least eight hours of sleep

Incorporating recovery periods during the day and a long, restful sleep are vital. Avoid blue light in the evening, which stops melatonin production and prevents a restful sleep. Melatonin is an important antioxidant. The room in which one sleeps should be dark and cool. A sleep mask can be of great help.

3. nutrition

The goal of a balanced diet is to provide our body with all the important building blocks it needs. If certain elements are missing or are not sufficiently present, our organism cannot build all the components to meet the demands of its environment. The focus must be on a nutritious, anti-inflammatory diet.

4. Nutritional supplements

The conversion of nutrition is paramount. It is always better to cover all nutrients through the intake of "real food". Especially at the beginning, it may be useful to provide the thyroid and adrenal glands with supplements with all the necessary building blocks. In this way, first improvements can usually already be achieved within a few days and weeks, which in turn accelerates the healing process.
