Google Duplex is an artificial chat agent which is capable of doing number of verbal tasks, such as reservation and appointment on call.this project of google currently lives in the majority states of U.S..Google duplex takes the help of google assistant and speaks at the place of user to perform the guided task in an AI based but human sounding voice.

It was launched by google at google I/O developer conference on 2018 by the CEO of company Sundar Pichai.

• How it works

Sundar Pichai showed the working of google duplex and showed that google duplex will not only understand the voice over phone but it will respond back with the correct answer as per the person’s enquiry.

Google duplex uses natural language understanding (NLU) and natural language generation (NLG) to make the two way conversation. It uses interjection and punctuation to make the conversation more realistic it can even confuse other.

Duplex is built on a recurrent neural network (RNN) using tensor flow Extended, a general purpose machine learning platform used at Google. The Duplex system is designed in such a way that it can perform different tasks autonomously but it has the programs to signal a human operator.

At the present moment the only thing that google duplex can do perfectly is making a table reservation in a restaurant.But in fore future it will be capable of doing much more things like taking a doctor’s appointment or setup a time and day for a haircut.

With making the most use of google assistance to interact with call it can even possible to do call screening.

The journey of google duplex was started from Atlanta, New York, Phoenix, and the San Francisco metropolitan area. By the early March the company expanded the use of google duplex to almost 43 states of U.S. After that 5 more states were added under the service of google duplex.

Now only two state of U.S. that are Kentucky and Louisiana are not having google duplex’s service.

Google Duplex was first launched for owners of its Google Pixel, pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, and Pixel 3 and Google Pixel 3 XL phones. More recently, Google Duplex support has started to work out to any Android devices which are using version 5.0 or newer. It’s also starting to workout to Apple’s iPhones that have Google Assistant installed.

Soon the future of AI will expand and this service will definitely available for each and every devices providing the best to its user.

• Will Duplex get success in India

In order to get success in India Google Duplex needs to increase the number of users. As for now, the demographic which indulges in online reservation, to arrange appointments at salons on phone or shops online, is very least. But the ratio of tech-savvy people amongst the population of 1.35 billion is almost negligible or of no use for google duplex. According to asurvey, current active e-commerce penetration in India is only 28 percent.

The main problem for Google to launch google duplex in India would be the 122 recognized spoken languages. As 70 percent of our Indian population consider their local languages for digital content rather than English. Google needs to customize Duplex in at least 22 official languages.

• Upcoming Google Duplex on the web

At the last google conference, Google I/O 2019 in May, the company announced to expand Duplex so that it can fill online web forms automatically. It will be called Duplex on the web and it will be launched later this summer in the U.S. and UK in English. This feature will also be limited at first, with Google CEO Sundar Pichai stating it will be used to make car rentals or purchase movie tickets.
